THE INTER MOUNTAIN'S ANACONDA DEPARTMENT GROUNDS ARE IN FAIR CONDITION THE MOUNTAIN VIEW BALL PARK IS BETTER THAN IT EVER WAS BEFORE-MUCH FASTER. DIAMOND EQUALS ANY IN STATE OF MONTANA Burns and Carter Have Both Worked on it Before-Anaconda Fans Hope to See Thorn Get a Chance Tomor row-A Good Crowd Ia a Sure Thing if the Weather is Decent. [hSEiCIAr. TO INTER MoU'NTAIN.] Anaconda, June 5.-Wheus the ball tossers of Managers McCloskey and Jack Flannery step into the diamond at Moun tain View Park Friday afternoon they will find those grounds in Ieter condition than ever before. The ground is three times as fast as it was during the days of the last league two years ago and in much better condition than 4 was a yce.r ago. Between it and the present Butte sround there is no com parisse. The diamond ., packed clown hard and solid and is perf.etly smooth, except for a few spears of grass that will grow in spite ot Manager 1)aniels of the Park. The outfield is covered with a short thick crop of grass that is in no place sufficient to hide the ball. The fact that the ground is three years old has more to do with its being in good condition thani any work that has been performed upon it. Thlis spring rains have done much to make the diamond what it is. "Oilic" Burns has pitched as good ball on the Anaconda grounds as has ever been pitched in the state olfMontana, anl if ,l:.:rigcr McCloskec y elects to put himi in the box for Ilutte Friday he may be sure he will receive the undivided support of the Anaconda fans. Car;ter also is a favorite in Anaconda and the baseball enthusiasts from this (ity \toutl like to see all the favorites perform if the chance is offered. That there % ill be a large turnout at Friday'. game is not to be doubted, the weather pcrmitting. \hile Anaclndla cannot furnish a crowd every day in the week. she will shut up her stores and take to the wood. oin special occasions. Anaconda, June 5.-At the next meet iiig of the city council a suggestion will be made in the direction of havinlg a rack of guns placed in the city hall for em ergency purposes. It has been suggested several times since the battle between Patrick Fitzstevens and the officers of the sheriff's department a few days ago. It is argued that had there been some guns handy at that time it would not have been necessary to fire so miany shots to capture of kill Fitzstevens, and the ex citement of the occasion would have been lessened. It is said that there were no guns ready for use when the insanle lilan begain operation and that before they were brought into action the lives of imany citizens were endangered. [SPI'I IAI. TO INTIR N:IOI'NIAIN.] Anaconda. June 5.-Since receiving word from VWashington that each of their num her are entitled to too acres of land somtle where in this vast country, the hand of nomad Chippewas encampcd near the city of Anaconda have assumed anll air of ac tivity to which they have been strangcrs many long months. The question which is now agitating the members of the band is where they shall settle down and till the soil, take up the white man's burden and lose trace of the noble aborigine. The entire band is thoroughly imuimed with a desire to get away from their pres ent quarters and already Chief Rocky Boy has dispatched runners to look over vari ous sections where they are to be allowed to live. No Suke, a half breed Chippewa, com nmonly known as "Jim" and who is a power in the hand is strongly in favor ot the band taking land In the vicinity o1 To hacco plains, or along St. Mary's river in Inorthwestern m IontanIa. Hlowever, there is sonml land in Idaho that some favor and Indians are now ab sent looking over both strips. When they returnl and report on the lands they have seen the Chippewas will decide where they want to go and will lose no time in. striking their tepees and hitting the trail. This will lie good news to tile residents of Anaconda and vicinity and (especially to the ranchers living bIlow in the I)er Iodge valley. To these ranchers the Indians have iroverd a contilnulal source of annoyance because of their polluting the waters of the creek with camp offal and the con sequent t danger of disease. CASE OF WALKER NOT SETTLED YET SAID TO BE THREE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD WHO WILL FAVOR THE PROFESSOR. Isml E Al (0 ' Nit) 1 515 Sti N'IAIN.l Anaconda, June 5.-- County Attorney D)uffy, who is conrducting the prosecutiotn of Principal Walker, charged with mis conduct to one of Ihis pupils, Miss Amy St.bin, , has concluded to rest his case and not to present any more Witnesses,. As the defense preselted by Walker consisted chiefly of his denial and opin ions of sole pupils of the high school on the manners and character of Miss Steblins and the principal, the county at torney does not deem it necessary to bring anly witnesses int rebLuttal. While President Fitzipatrick has set no date for the hearing of the case before, the whole board, it is believed that it will lie taken up Saturday night and tran scripts of the tesartnioy are now being pit epared. It is thought by many that three inem bers of the board are i. n favor of the principal, but the sentiment appears to be so strongly against hin that it is believed a meeting of the citizens will le held to take indelendent action in the ma tter. So far the oly poiiit raised by the attorney for Walker was his question to the girl whether shte resisted the overtures of the pirincipal and the effort to prove that her conduct was not the aest. No evidence to this effect has been pro duced, andl the expression seems to be pretty general that if she was a little out of thie ordinary, it was the art of the prinripal all tIe more, to protect her and discourage any miscondluct oni her part.
