Feb. 7.-It is announced that there will he a meeting of the Lincoln Re publican club at Friendship hall, on Com mercial street, next Thursday. It will be an informal meeting, at which there will be speaking and a general good time. Cigars, light drinks and a lunch will be provided, and it is expected that a large crowd will be present. Formal invitations have been already sent to all of the most prominent republi cans in the state, and some of themt have, it is said, signified their intentions to be present. Ex-Senators Thomas II. Carter and L.ce Mlantle will, in all probability be present, as will Chairman l.indsay of the republi can state central committee, T. J. .Porter of Miles City, C. E. Webster of Great Falls. and several others. While no regular program has been ar ranged, G. S. E. Wisner, who has acquired local fame as an orator, will deliver an address on the life and services of Abra ham Lincoln. 'Taking into account Mr. Wisner's known ability, it is predioted and confidently expected that his address will be a master piece. Col. C. II. THEATER WAR OVER Howe and Cort Have Come to an Amicable Agree ment, It Is Said. 5PECIAL. TO Tilt. INTi:R lMOiNTAIN. Seattle, Wash., Feb. 7.-The war Ie tween the two leading Seattle theaters is over. By an agreement signed yesterday by J. P. Howe of the Seattle theater and John Cort of the Grand, it was agreed that beginning with next season, the bookings for which are now being made, the Seat tle will handle trust shows. All the shows with admittance front t$.so are to be booked at the Grand, while the Seattle gets all the $s.oo and under shows. The week stands also go to the Seattle. This agreement will also affect the theaters in Butte controlled by Howe and later probably will allect the one in Spokane. When shown the above dispatch this morning Manager Marks, of the Grand, said: "While there may be a great deal in the report, still at the present time noth Ing is settled. It is all in the air. I do not know anything definite. I have heard many rumors but it wian be several weeks before anything certain is known about toe tratnsaction." ERNEST MATHERS IS OUT Released Upon $500 Bonds-Will Have Hearing Next Week. Ernest Mathers, who has been detained in the county jail on the charge of burning the buildings of Mrs. Oulds, who lives south of Butte, was released last evening upon $0oo bonds. He will have a preliminary hearing next weck. municipal government. In which he will discuss the relationship between county and city governnments. Anaconda, Feb. 7.-An application has been made to the court for letters of ad ministration on the estate of Mary E. Duffy, deceased, by George Parrot. pro prietor of the Parrot block. Mr. Parrot says that it is not the inltentionl of the husband of Mrs. Parrot to make applica tion. The estate consists of furniture wvhich is valued at $6no. Frank Maloy, a boy, was tried by Judge Boyle this morning for Irequentin tihe sa loons and low places on Ihast (Galena street. He had been arrested by Policemen lien derson and l.yden and the ofticers told the court that the boy had been a habitue of a Galena street saloon for some time. It was proved that Maloy was an em ploye of the saloon in question and the judge decided to let hin go. NORTHERN PACIFIC IS LIABLE FOR ROAD TAX Buch Is Opinion of Assistant County At torney Lynch, Who Has Looked Up the Law In the Case. According to an opinion prepared by Assistant County Attorney Lynch, the Northern Pacific Railroad con pany is liable for the taxes upon its land within the city limits for county rad purposes. The company was taxed $Sts.55 as road taxes and after paying the money asked to have it refunded. The county commissioners referred the matter to the county attorney's office re specting the legality of such action, Mr. Lynch holds that the law under which the tax was levied is constitutional and there fore the company is liable .for the tax, A Boy and a Girl. I:. 7.-- Last evening at about 9 o'click the whistles of thle big works sounded anl alarm of lire and a croiwd was shortly on the scelle expecting to see a big blaze. The tire was, in a small way, simply a repetition of the fire of several weeks agio which caused so much damage, but it was extinguished with hbut suuall oss. It is thought that hot slag caused the fire, it having Itoppedl into the hint. HARGRAVE IS HERE Brigadier Will Lead Rally in the Local Salvation Army Post. Brigadier Hargrave, the leader of the Salvation Army for the Pacific province, which includes the cltire Pacific north west, arrived today from his headquarters ill Spokane to as,ist the local branch of the army in its work of redeeming sos.
