The prisoners at the city jail were not forgotten in Butte's Abservance of Thanksgiving day. There was thankfulness, unexpressed perhaps, even in the city jail. BALL BY CLERKS TONIGHT Annual Thanksgiving Day Affair at Ren shaw 'Hall. Missoula; Marion Auld, Chouteau; Netta Gervais, Cascade, Not After Seven Days. This being Thanluksgiving day, lperhbaps the young lhlies will be thankful if the Inter Mountain should mention in a friendly way that coupons, both single and special, cannot be voted after they are seven days old. There is no question that lots of special coupons are being saved up "for the last" by a few of the young ladies' friends with the expectation that they will be counted. So be thanikful and hurry in the specials as well as the singles. Nearly every day suggestions are Illade by friends, through the mail, that the Inter Mounutain "put in" a few thousand votes for the candidates in several coun ties and bring those who are behind up) to the leaders and thus make the contests more even and interesting. There is no way that the Inter Mountain can do this under the system used in voting. The candlidates all understand this, but for the general information of patrons of the paper the following explanation is made: Special Coupons. The special coupons are given with the receipt issued for the money paid on sub scription, both arrearages and in advance, and the coupons bear the number of such receipt. A coupon not numbered, dated and signed is not worth the paper it is printed on. The numbers of the receipts are all on the cash book, and unless the coupons are identical with these numbers they are not counted In the vote. It's very simple and a very close check on the business office of the Inter Moun tain and on the voting public. Have Long Leads. Several counties in the state seem to be almost unanimous in their choice, to judge from the votes cast up to date, and in cases the second girls are so far behind as to appear almost out of it. But appearances are deceitful, and if what their friends say is true a number of these bad seconds and thirds will be first at the finish. Another feature of these contests are the statements made by the young ladies that they have so many thousands of votes "held back." What is meant by them is that they have so many pledged to them for a later day, but as the close of the contest is distant they rely on these votes. It will be better for the ladies if ,they get in a few thousands now. Things happen, you know, and your best supporter is the one who votes now and helps you with a good score. The others will come easier if you have a good vote in the table. Another reason why you should get your vote in early is that some other girl may get after those votes and you may lnot get but half of them. It's often done. You thay not know it, but it's true. Size considered, it is the best county in the state. Miss Hill, Miss McIntosh and Miss McLoughlin are all in earnest and have friends by the hundreds, and it is hard to name the winner. Broadwater county has made a splendid showing for such a small county. The work there has been conducted with per fect fairness to one another by the young, ladies. One of the contestants turned in' a6 orders to Byrne Bros., the result of one day's work, and that's going some. Granite county has a very even contest; up to this time. It is pretty hard to guess. much there. Lewis and Clarke county is another gooTc one, There is not much excitement ther, according to the table, but there is som - thing being planned nearly all the time by the girls and they are in earnest. Madison county has a fine list of candi dates. They are campaigners over there, and the one that wins will earn the trip. Meagher county will furnish a pretty race between the four leaders, because the citizens throughout the county are a loyal lot and have a prejudice against "losing out" on any proposition. Park county is very much interested and prcalisca a close race between Miss Clark tand Miss Hruza, and possibly one other. It is pretty close in Ravalli between Miss Olds and Miss Harper. Miss Olds bas friends in Butte, and on days that Miss Harper gets to work the total is 'always large. Silver Bowl Just notice the list of candi hdates and then estimate what the total vote will be at the close in this county. 'There are things being planned by those young ladies that will make nearly every body in the county a voter. It is a fact that lots of Silver Bow votes are going to other counties, but those that are 'send ;ing out these votes will likely have to vote !again for the home girls. In Favor of Railway.
