of Spokaune passed through Missoula last
night on the way to Ilelena, where he
goes to ask the governor for requisition
papers for Charles Haller, a blind man
who runs a cheap lodging house in Mis
soula. lHaller came to Missoula several
weeks ago and two weeks ago he was
arrested on information from,! Spokane
charging him with being a fugitive from
justice.

erty, though he has not left town. The al
leged crime with which he is Ht_'getias
obtaining several hundred dolrFrs and a
quantity of merchandise on false pre
tenses while living in Spokane.

Missoula, Dec. I..-Missoula lodge, No.
1g, 1. O. G. T., entertained in open meet
ing last night at Odd Fellows' hall. Many
non-members were present. Games, con
tests and music and the serving of re
freshments made up the evening's pro
grami, concluding with a spech on the
purposes of the order by Dr. Sanford Mc
Call.
This lodge is nine years old next Fri
day, but merged the anniversary exercises
into last night's festivities. The mem
bers are already discussing the manner
in which they will entertain the grand
lodge which will meet here next August.

lasco, vice-president of the republic, has
resigned, says a dispatch from La Paz, Bo
livia, to the Herald. The congressional
committee to which the matter was re
ferred has replied in favor of accepting
the resignation,
To Merge Railway Offioes.
San Francisco, Dec. Is.-T'he local office of
the Rock Island system has been advised that
on the first of the year the offices of the 'Frisco
line in this city and Los Angeles will be
merged into the agencies of the Rock Island
company.

CANTATA AT MOUNTAIN
VIEW CHURCH SUCCESS
A pretty flower cantata was given in the
Mountain View churc.h last night. The
children performed their parts well and
the scene where the May Queen received
the flower offerings was quite effective.
The music, furnished by the Olson
Juvenile orchestra, was well rendered.
The cantata was under the guidance of
the primary teachers in the Sunday-school,
Miss Coffin, Miss Marvin and Miss Jenk

Washington, Dec. zz.-Baron Sternberg,
Gcrman ambassador, called on President
Roosevelt yesterday to pay his respects
and formally announce his return from his
recent sojourn in Germany. He presented
to the president a personal communication
of good will and friendship from Emperor
William.
The expression from the emperor is
.brief and cordial. Its text was not made

Christian Scientists Attended Dedication
of New York Church.
Mrs. Anna F. Crowley, accompanied by
30 members of the First Christian Scien
tist church, will return from New York
tonight. These Scientist went to New
York to attend the dedication of the First
church and met ,with thousands of other
members from all over the United States.

Rome, Dee. ra.-King Victor Emmanuel last
-night signed a decree giving to Senor Savrilla,
the Italian minister at Havana, full power to
conclude a commercial treaty between Italy
and Cuba.

Butler, Pa., Dec. sa.-But one death from
typhoid fever and four new cases are reported.

Tirst-Any young lsdy over Is years of age may be nominated at any lime on blanks
provided and by the indorsement of three well known citizens of the county in which she
gesides
Second-Three judges agreeable to the candidates shall be selected to officially an
nounce the winner in each county. One girl will be chosen from each county excepting
that Silver Bow shall have three, Deer Lodge and Missoula two each.
Third-As in other elections, each county will vote separately. The vote in one cannot
effect the others. Matters properly concerning the tour will be settled by the wishes ol
the majority. The winner shzll have the right to name a proxy iu unable to attend her.
