EACH THURSDAY AT BELT. MONT., BY & A REMINGTON
—
JOHN M. KAY
John M. Kay at Buffalo, Fergus County, is a candidate for
fee office of Superintendent of Public Instruction on the demo
cratic ticket.
Kay was born In Montana and received his early schooling in
the schools of Bozeman. Before attending college he took a bus
course in the Helena Business College. Later he attended
Montana State College in Bozeman and graduated from Highland
P«vlr «.II«» in Fto. M»in«. Tow.
Parit college »« De* Momes. lt «a.
As a teacher he has had a Wide experience. He was principal
of a ward school in Bozeman for five years. Superintendent of
Schools in Red Lodge for eight years and principal of Broadwater
County high school at Townsend for eight years, and his record
. Q , - „ rrnn( , v . Ua to™, o
how * a decided success m each place. He served one tenm as
president of the Montana State Teachers' association and was
president of the Montana State High School Athletic association,
For six years he was in business for himself in Havre, Montana.
He has a family of three girls and three boys. The latter
j it, .
were typical American boys, 8p0! ^ "Jj their
names may be found among the winners of points at the Missoula
meet. When war broke out two of the boys immediately joined
the colore and in war service in France both were gassed. John,
fee older, is permanently affected and will probably never regain
his health, while Perry is sufficiently recovered to allow him to
earn his own living in Missoula although the effects of the gas
still be seen.
Mr. Kay, the elder, is a successful executive who has seen
enough of the seamy side of life to know that school taxes must
be lowered and that ranchers can not be taxed out of the country
here will be no children to attend school.
,As a school man and a gentleman, John Kay is entitled to the
|»rt of everyone in his party and everyone not in his party
who votes for him may know that he is voting for a man who will
be an honor to the office if elected.

Introducing the speakers in a very
4 pleasing manner. A very delightful
feature of the program was the sing-
ing of Frank Savage, who rendered
. three solos. Mr. Graybill, Mr. Gock-
rill, and Mr. Murphy made emphatic
addresses. Mr. Mitchell followed with
an address that was simple, straight
forward and unbiased, the fact that
Mr. Mitchell lived here as a young
{man, and brought his bride here to
make her home, made hie a real homv
speech. Mr. Norton couldn't be pre
vailed upon to speak, but he, did cor
ro bo rate certain statements made by
Mr. CockriU in behalf. The re
mataing doaen candidates sat on the
platform with the speakers and later
met old friends and made new ones.
Following the formal program, a very
delightful dance was enjoyed for three
hours.
We had a splendid big republican
rally here Tueaday night Dan Lenny
presided in brief and pleasing style.
The speakers of the evening were W.
H. Hoover, R. A. Duncan and Walter
Bennett, all of whom delivered very
able addresses. Fifteen candidates
took their places on the platform to
tile strains of orchestral mask, and
all were presented to the audience.
Excellent mask Invited the large
crowd to dance modi and often.
