The donation ia purely in the intereat of commercial aviation, for it ia understood there ia no intention otr the part of the Ford Motor Company to go into the ait» plan« business, other than watch its development. All pilots will be welcome at the field and it is large enough to taka care of the largest types of ships. It is also expected that the field will be the terminal for airplane companies now being formed to operate between Detroit and other large cities. Gas oline, oil, apd before long a stock of parts, will be available for visiting fliers. The field has two 300-foot runways, one 3,700 feet and the other 3,400 feet long, both in the direction of prevail ing winds. More than twenty miles of drslning tile was laid for quick drainage in wet weather in order that the field might be suitable for year round operation. In the center of the field the name ''Ford" appears in letters ,200 feet high, made of white crushed stone. This is visible from en altitude of 10,* 000 feet. When conditions warrant, arrangements will be made for illum inating the field at night. There is an ample hangar and in the same building, airplane manufac turing operations are being carried on by the Stout Metal Airplane Com pany and the Aircraft Development Company.
