TheSouthern Cross is in all probability^the coming mine of tbe territory of Mon^^tana and will celebrate the admission to^statehood by first dropping stamps upon^output of tbe largest body of gold-bearing^lUartz that has ever been discovered and^developed in the territory. Very little has^been said and nothing has heretofore been^written by authorized parties about the^merits of the Southern Cross company's^group of mines. The first Issue of treasury^stock of 30,000 shares was sold within forty-^eight hours after being offered on the mar^^ket and no more purchasable at any price.^The policy of tbe company has been to^withdraw from publicttv as much as pos^^sible and only from casual visitors has any^information been gleaned of this immense^ore body. The Southern Cross mine is^situated on the west side of tbe Cable bill,^about one-half a mile distant, and its con^^tinuity with the great Cable ledge is clearly^discerned along the surface. Develop^^ment is being vigorously pushed and there^seems bo limit of the ore body: surface cuts^and cross-cuts in the 100-foot level, tbe 175^and the 250 foot levels show an ore body^from twenty-two to thirty-five feet In width.^The average value of tbe ore is from^twelve to eighteen dollars per ton. and as^it is entirely free milling, it leaves a large^margin for profit to tbe owners. The com^^pany's properties include three claims, side^by side, all showing bodies of ore at a sim^^ilar chareter to that described. But as yet^development has been confined principally^to the Southern Cross lode. Experts who^have been through the mine unhesitatingly^pronounce it the greatest showing they^have ever seen in a Montana mine with an^equal amount of development, and the pre^^diction is made that the famous Homes take^has a promising rival in this property.^The trustees of the company were in^session at Butte two days of the present^week and aa a result It Is announced that^a new mill now In course of erection will^be at work pounding on Southern Cross^ore within the next sixty days, while plans^are maturing for tbe construction of the^largest gold plant In Montana to be com^^pleted this year. 11.B.
