time after this when they heard through one of the banks here that he was in Hele na, Mont, as they had accepted his draft from that place. They wrote to Helena but could get no trace of him. They now fear that something has happened to him. They would feel obliged if any one who Could give information of Smith's move Steate since leaving Barnia would com municate with this ofice." AMUSEMENTS. "Lest ia London." Newton Beers and company fill a two nights engagement at Ming's opera house, July 3 and 4, with a special matinee on the Fourth of July. The pieces to be pre sented are "Lost in London" and "Enoch Arden." "Lost in SLondon" is a turn that means much to those who know the NEWTON BEERS great English metrop oils with.ite wonderful streets, its vast pal aces of crime, its dens of infamy, its ever lasting whirl and roar of life, and the great play of that name is a striking representa tion of life in the great city. The plot of "Lost in London" is not unfamiliar to the theater-going public. The play is by no means a new one, but so true is it to life and to human nature that one can see it again and again, each time with re newed pleasure. even as one can turn again and again to the pages of the old masters of literature, to find always in them some thought, some beauty that had escaped us before. The company that pre sents this piece is a strong one. Mr. Beers, as "Job Armroyd," supported by MissJessii Lee Randolph and eleven other people. who have been carefully selected for their distinctive parts, give an even and true performance. The coal mine scene, with the miners at work. is very realistic, as is also the London snow scene, where one sees the busy crowd moving about, the beg-. gar woman, funny policeman, newsboy. tipsy dude, depicting the humorous and auverse sides of life on a London thorough fare of a winter's night. The piece con cludes with a beautiful tableau called Job's Vision. The following is the cast. Job Armroyd...............Newton Feers ilbert Featherstone..... McDermott, of the Northern Pacific, in company with Mrs. McDermott, went east last night, to be gone a week or more. The boys around the depot, when they learned of the trip, de termined be should not f..rget them, and to make sure of it, yesterday at noon presented him with a handsome gold and enameled pin. On the bar on the top of the pin are the letters "U. O. of It. E.," while in the center of the whole is a large "T," on one side of which is the letter "B" and on the opposite "It," signifying Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. "Mac" was very proud of the gift, because it showed the manner in which he is regarded by the men who work with him. Since taking charge of affairs at the depot, Mr. McDermott has shown his fit nets for the position and has wore the good will both of the employts and of the rail way oflicials. Club Banquet-. Uhe atock market to-day was quiet but re mained weak, many stocks closing materially lower than last evening. While the entire list is now materially lower than a week ago there was nothing in the news of the day to encourage new buying or covering of shorts. While there was no particular pressure to sell long stocks the bear was again active and aggressive and by vig oroes drives at certain specialties gave the en tire market a weak tene and broke some shares very badly. The market finally closed fairly ac tive and weak at lowest prices for the day and week. Final chances are all declines. (1 overnments-Stecaly. Petroleum-July clouod 6t7. Closing Closing U.
