At Greenhood, Bohmn & Co.'s Old Stand. STRANGE CASE OF CATALEPSY. 3ltalinda Dunlap, Asleep and Cannot Be Awakened. Asleep, and cannot be awakened. Such is the condition of Malinda Dunlap, a domestio in the employ of Tom Dell, the baker, of Lookland. The affair is creating quite a sensation in the suburbs, and the slumbering being is the marvel of all who have called at her chamber, ears the Cin cinnati Commercial Gazette. ILinda, as she is familiarly known about Lockland, is ain unmarried woman, of about a5, whose home is at Goshen, 0. She came to Lockland from Indiana last fall with the family of Moses Collins, em iplayed with the extra gang of the Big Four road, and remained with them until about two months ago, when she entered the Dell household. She went to bad as usual at 10 o'clock Monday night, and at tive yesterday morning was called by Mr. Dell. He waited some time time and, not hear ing a response, went to her room. There she lay like a corpse. He rushed down stairs, calling to those he saw that she wee dead. Dr. G. W. Davis wassummoned and found the woman in a spell of hystero-catalepsy, a condition when the nervous systerm, both sensory and motor, is seemingly paralyzed. He dashed ice water in her face without the stir of a muscle being seen, and then ap plied ammonia to the nose, the inhalation of which generally causes the most violent bronchial irritation. Through it all she slept as peacefully as a child after the roupse of a long summer day. He next used nitrate-amyl with as soothing effect irs the ammonia had produced. As a last reso.t he gave her a drop of trinitrin, with no other effect than an acceleration of the pulse. Her respiration and pulse was normal, and when her eyelids are opened hep eyeballs roll as though she were looking at different objects. Her jaws era set ae close as in death, and all the force applied by the physician to open them, so that food might be administered, proved useless. The most mysterious feature of the strange case is that when any part of her body is pilaced in a certain position it re mains so for several minutes, and everr when she is made to sit up in bed at an angle of forty-live degrees she will retain that position for a number of minutes, gradually sinking to her pillow. Cases of hystero-oatalepsy are of rare oc currence, and the most skilled physicians fail to give ri cause for it, each one claiming its origin to arise in different disorders, among which snore give is hereditary pre disposition towrrd it, functional and or genie derangements of the nervoun syst-rm, as well as rrany trilling disorders, which frequently precede tin attack. Cases have been known to follow mental shooks, dis appointments of various kinds, or anri un usual occurrence that would tend to diher - rrnge the ordinary term.o of tire nervous system. Attacks aimilar to this have at times been controllable on the pr t of the patient to anob sn extent that the adminis tration of such ri severs measure as apply ing a red hot iron to the skin hbrs resulted in ii complete cure.
