The Evening Telegraph of Lon don is issued each afternoon from the office of the Daily Telegraph, which taper is a morning daily issued six times a week, and has the largest circulation of any paper in England, and, with one exception, the largest in the world. The proprietors of the Daily Telegraph, in printing the even ing edition, which is copyrighted, do so merely to protect themselves in the right to the use of the name in case they ever care to issue an evening edition, and also to prevent any one else from starting such a sheet and gathering the great advantage which the use of the title, Evening Tele graph, would give." Pceetpitated by Two Men Who Would Not Pay fare. Liraon, Pa., June 18.--A riot oecorred on a Ligonier Valley train last night which resulted in the death of one person and will six o'clock thirty or forty employea of Booth & Flynn's stone quarry boarded the Valley train at this place. John Higgins and Patrick Diamond had not prohased fares, the quarrel began. The train was c stopped and Kuhn ordered the men out.l Higgins and Diamond refused to go. John i Lape, brakeman, and Harry Knox, con struction laborer, undertook to eject them, when others of the quarrymen took up the flabt. Irwin Morrow and Thomas Horne demanded that Higins and Diamond be allowed to retain thrir seats. Then began a terrible riot. Fifty men fogured in the Afeht. Mor ow and Hore fought like tigers, but the th rainmen stn k to them plokily and when the quarrymeo found they were beiang overpowered Morrow nicked up a piece of stcantling and struck i John Lape, brakeman, on the head, corush ing in his skull. Thooen turning to Knox, Morrow knocked him down, splitting his skull also. Wil Morrow was eThongagd in this murderous work Horne was fighting the quarrymen In the car. Others having ral lied to the aid of the trainmen, several of the quarrmen were knocked down andFi men brutally kicked, three of them being seri ously injured. Both Morrow and Horns jumped from the train and disappeared in the darkness. Oicers Fry and Cannond of this place, organized a posse of citirens, who soarrmeon hunted the two men down and I who soon hunted the two mren down and who oon hunted the two mendown and lodged them inm jail at Greensburg. Joe Lape, the brakeman, who lived at Ligonier, is dead. Knox will hardly re cover. TOSSED FOR $1,000. A Pretty Stiff Vager Made by Two Mil waukee People. Tossing up a silver coin for such a sum as $1,000 in cold cash is gambling at a much more rapid pace than is seen in Mil waukee oftener than once or twice a year at least, yet that is what two well-known and repntable citizens did in the local office of the Northweetern railroad, on Wis consin street, Wednesday afternoon, says the Milwaukee Sentinel. The gentlemen whose betting proclivities reached the de velopment indicated are Charles M. Kipp, the South Side manufacturer, silver mine owner and capitalist, and Albert Geerlings, local passenger agent of the Baltimore A Ohio road. Ordinarily Meesrr. Kipp and Geerlings do not ascend to such a height in their wagers, bult they rarely mlett in a pub lic place without a few dollars changing bhnds in "fli , ing at a crack in the floor," the "flippee" coming cosaest to the crack, of course, tocketing the money. When they lmet in Mr. Fergu son's office Wednesday the customary "flipping" exercise was none through. Geerlings won and quit, and Kipp liverred that G erlings wasn't much of a sport. In the end, it is reported he made his remarks general, and declared that there was not a man in the party w o had the neive to wager $1,000. Mr. Goeerlings is believed to have taken the remark as a direct imulica tion upon his bettina blood, so picked up the gauntlet. A playing card was produced and laid on the floor. Whoever came the closest to that card with his coin was to receive a cheek for $1,000 from the other. While the $6~0J clerks and the rest of the spectators caned in amazement, Mr. Kipp tossed up his dollar. It rolled away from the card about a foot. Mr. Geerlings' dol lar dropped flat on the card. A check on the Merchants' Exchange bank for $1,000 was immediately dl,rwn up by Mr. Kipp. "I'll go you again," said the gentleman. "Not now," was the rejoinder, "I know a good thing when 1've got it." And he tucked the check in his portmonnaie as he strolled away. TOO MUCH COFFEE. It Causes Peter McKeever to Become a Maniac. A case where a man has become insane through excessive indulgence in coffee was 5 discovered in Chicago last week, when I Peter McKeever, a restaurant keeper, was taken to the detention hospital by his wife for examination. While the doctors were a proceeding with their investigation Mo t Keeper became violent and before he could a be controlled he had torn his clothes al most entirely from his body. Mrs. Mo f Keever sanay: "For the past two or three years my husband has tarken scarcely any a solid food, but has subsided almost en .t tirely upon coffee. Although we tried to r persuade him to change his method of liv a ng and abstain from coffee, for we saw h that it weea impairing his mind, we were unable to do ro. He could not leave coffee alone.." Dr. Wade says there seems to be no other reason for his inmesanily than the one as signed by his wife.-Cinoucnati Enquirer. Vlerhaps Heetey Was There. Burt beiger, hailing from St. Louis, was yesterday afternoon buncoed out of $160i on a poker hand, and James Cary. Charles Klein and Isease Epstein ware arrested on the charge of porating a contfidence geame, says the Kansas City Journal. The four men were on an incoming Missouri Pacitto train and were indulging in a quiet game of euchre for points. During the progress of the ganme Epstein remarked that he held a good poker hand. At this Seiger said he also held a good poker hand, and proposed that toe game be turned from euchre to poker, which was accordingly done and the cigars bet. From cigars for the crowd the stakee grew to a box, and from a box of cigars to $5. Continuing at this rate the neat bet of $160-all Heieer had-was made and the turn called. Seiger held four kings and Mr. Epetein four aces. -ilm',--ihv,.J, s *p l lm a~tli., ., . sight p. m. O~ngrgatioal oburc.houp strmeet aud Beaton aysue.--Jev. Mr. iRl of Red S °., i. ew.ch in te on{..
