Ose U adred sad Thirty-ve Cear d'Alese Miaers Released. WADxNsa. Idaho, Sept. 4.--One hundred and thirty-five prisoners were released at Wallace yesterday afternoon. Indictments were found against every one of them by the United States grand jury, now in ses sion at Ocsur d'Alene City, but it was deemed best not to bring them to trial now, but to keep the indictments hanging over them as an incentive to good behavior. Not more than twelve or fifteen of those Indleted will be brought to trial. Only ten prisoners remain at allace. The Fourteenth infantry, of Vancouver, will be sent home next week and the Fourth infantry, of Fort Sherman, shortly after, leaving the troops from Fort Spokane, under Col. Cook, to maintain peace and order until such time as it will be deemed safe to withdraw them. Gen. Carlin is at Wallace, where he will remain until the troops can be withdrawn. The released miners are confdent they will yet succeed in driving out the non-union men. THE "NAVVY" A WOMAN. Her Sea Vas Revealed When She Was Taken to the Hospital. An ailing "navvy." who had been en gaged in some works near Versailles. was admitted to a hospital in that town yester day, says a Paris letter. Before the sick person had long been in the institution it was discovered that the apparent "na.vy" was a woman! The superintendent of the hospital was not in the least surprised on bearing of the transformation scene, for it appears that he is accustomed to deal with many women patients who enter the hos pital in male attire. It is common In the district for robust women to don men's garb in order to obtain remunerative employ ment as narvies, porters, farm laborers, road menders, or assistants to bricklayers, masons and builders. It has long been es tablished that the average Frenchwoman of town or country has as great a capacity for work, either in counting houses, hoves, fields or farms, as her lord and master has for.laziness and lolling in cafes, playing dominoes and smoking engarettes. NO REGARD FOR AGE OR SEX. Women and Children Hart In a Charge by Pennsylvania Militla. Prrrinmoa, Sept 4.-As the excursion steamer City of Pittsburg was passing Homestead to-night, some of the passengers shouted "scab" at the workmen in the Car negie mill. A number of soldiers quickly boarded the tug boat Tide and started for the City of Pittsburg. The two boats col lided and the militiamen made a bayonet charge on the excursionists. In the rush a woman was knocked down, one leg broken, and severe internal injuries infiicted. A scene of the wildest excitement followed, which soon developed intoa complete panic. Women fainted by the score and four chil dren were trampled under foot and seri ously injured. About twenty-five of the vassencere were arrested and taken to Homestead, charged with disorderly con douct. ABOUT THE CHOLERA. Where It Amounts to Little and What Remedies to Apply. Prof. Sclhwenniger, one of the most cele brated doctors of Germany, and physician In ordinary to Bismarck, says, seagading the cholera: "In healthy places, clean towns, and among the well nourished, the malady will amount to little. In that case there may be ten or only one cholera case, according to the size of the population, but no thousands as in Hamburg. If you be come ill, drink, as hot as ever you can, grog, camomile tea, no matter what, pro vided that it is hot. Then if your limbs grow cold plunge into a steaming hot bath. Should these produce no effect then place yourself in the hands of God, for those are the only remedies known to be efficacious. The doctors can do nothing, but don't be afraid of cholera." JOTTINGS ABOUT TOWN. To-day is Labor day. "Hoss and Hess" opens at Ming's opera house to-night. The democratic county convention will be oalled to order at noon to-day at the auditorium. The B3loadwater hotel season closes on Wednesday, but the plunge will be kept open for some time. There will be a special meeting of the Helena Wheelmen's club to-morrow even ing at the rooms in THo. INDPENDENT block. The excursion from Great Fells to Nei hart and return will leave Great Falls on Thursday, Sept. 8, and not on Sept. 10 as frst advertised. Missoula and Helena will play a third game at Athletic Dark to-day. The game will be called at 3:30 and will probably be a very exciting one. A regular meeting of the Working Women's home is to be held to-day at 10:30 a. m. at the residence of Mrs. Heilman, Breokenridge street. The Fort Assinniboine band, which is considered to be the best in the northwest, has been engaged to attend the democratic convention in Great Falls on Sept. 12. Thos. P. Davis died at the Sister's hos pital Saturday mornidg at seven o'clock, and was buried yesterday by the cab comn pany, by whom he was employed. He was a native of Pattonsville, Mo. Ed Duval was arrested yester :ay by the police charged with stealing some clothing and a revolver from August Anderson at Bloseburu. Howard Lee, who was given $10 to nail out Clara Norton, was also ar rested. He is charged with larceny as baileeo. W. L. Swendeman and C. K. Anderson, of the Helena Wheelmen's club, made a trip to Townsend yesterday on their bicycler. 'Ihey lcft Helena at 6:'A) a. m. and arrived at Townsend at 9:30, n.aking thirty-seven miles in three hours. They returned to Helena at five p. m.n City warrants sold Saturday for )98% cents on the dolla. The Thormas C nue Savings bank bIought the whol n amount of fered. 1'J.000, at thait price. 'This is the highest fihure that lHelena so int has brought since the system of selling war rants was inaugurateI. Ike Hays, the colored heavyweicht, says he has been misrepresented by the Ana conda Standard with reference to his nego tiations with Joe Sheey for a match. Hays says there is $500 or more in Helena to back him in a contest with Sheec, and that he has never offered to "lay down" to any body. The Kind of Bait to Use on Some Men. The pastor was calling at the house of Brother Billings and the small boy was en tertaining him until the parents came down. "Do you ever go flshin'?" inquired the youngster, who had inherited his father's fondness for the sport. "1 am a fisher of men," restonded the good man. "Do yon carry your bait in a juo like papa does?" was the next question, and just at that moment Brother Billings api eared with a seraphio smile of innocence lighting up his genial oountenance.-lDetroit Free Press.
