HELE\NA.PRODUCE MARKET. llHzarxx, November 19, 1877. There appears to have been but little change in the produce markets since our last report. With but a few exception the prices appear to be at fair rates for the farmers. Though there is no great surplus in the country, there appears to be plenty, and no o11(n seenls a1nxio to spe)uluate largely; and so things go smoothly on. Th folllowing was the ruling rates this morning : Flour, choice, $5.00. Oats, light. $2.25(2.50. Barley, $2.25( .2.50. Wheat. 02.15(@2.-:0. Bran and Shorts. $1.50. Butter, ready safe at 50c. Eggs.. 60c. Dhickkens, Sr:00 per doz. P'otatoes. $30.(0 per ton. Onions, $3.00 per cwt. Beef, not. $4.00. }Fish., 20(al.25c. per lb ilay. $10(,12 per ton. Wood, 8$(.5~) per cord. .. .. . . . ... .. . . . . ... .. .... .. !-- · -- -- - - - - PATRONS OF HUSBANDRY. Tian, Grange is doing vastly more for the young people thana is generally supposed. Many young wu. have becu built up in character. There are those who are now head and shoulders above doing things in which they were wont to indulge them Nelves before they became members of the order. The useociations and influences of the Grange have taught them self-respect and the importance of self-control.-Prairie Farmner'. HINTS TO GRANGES. A Granlge is an organized co-operativc society and is, or ought to be, at all times. in comnplete running order. Its object it tihe benefit of its members, intellectually. physically, morally and pecuniarily. IIo - best to accomplish the desired object and reap the full benefit ot co-opIration should Ie the constant study of each and every :aem ber. We take it tor granted that no Patron o1 IHasbaudry is so stupid as to believe that la or she can realize any very decided benefit simply by joining the Grange and paying the monthly dues. Joining the Grange ih simply placing one's self in a position where by earnest and well directed effort, greater good can be accomplished than by the most persistent individual endeavers,, The montlh ly dues can only be regarded as a contribu lion for incidental expenses and can form no part of the cash capital required for the accomplishment of the real objects of the -ociety. In thls article we wish to point out a sin gle way in which every Grange, no matter Where located, cami, by co-operation, de; id edly hbeeflt every one of its members. We have told the story many times, in various ways, but it will bear repeating and must be repeated from time to time, the full meas ure of' good, sought for by the Order, is at tai"ed. Every Grange should at once assess its members and raise a sufficient sumn to pur chase a thoroughbred hill, ram and boar. These three males should be procured with out delay. They will be the property of the Grainge tlld be used fer:the benefit of its nembers only. The expense, per capita; will be small. Two hundred and fifty dlol Jars will buy superior animals and five hun dired will procure first-class. If the Grange 'has allarge membership, a stallion may be 'added to .the list, and the great work of stock improvement will begin. 'There is more money and less labor in stock than in anything avadable to the farmer. The scrnubs which are everywhere Aseen, are of ittle value, but every year, with 1proper erossing, their value can be in ~creased in almost geomutrical proportion, The climate, range, water and markets of the South are peculiarly adapted to thi.s in dustry and it should imunediately take front Sanlk amlOlu our resources auin will do so, if the suggestions we have made .sar adopted by any considerable number of ourGranges. Lot the improvement begin now. Do not wait till next year or any period more re mote. Every day's delay is money lost. The plan it. entirely feasible and requires no groat skill or experience to accomplish the inauguralt'se movement. Commtuon sense and a generous supply of money will start .he Interested parties on the road to real prosperlty.--Son of the Sotl. ORANGE DIRECTORY. Bozeman Grange, No. 2. W.B. cMeadow, Master.
