1: ·I -ft JOB PRESIDENT HAMILTON, SUPER. IfTlY1UNIANT IALY-LAW AND PRINCIPAL HOLST BUSY. Hamilton, I-eb. 17.-(pecial.) President James Hamilton of the Boseman agricultural college, County Superintendent of Pchnol ts Mpnte Balley-Law, and PHineipal J. NH. 8hoipt of Victor have put, in a bus4f weaek in several of the distrlcts of the btiln ty in the interest of the consolida tlon of these schools With other'.At .tricts. The ;proposition is one whi lk has been receiving attention frep the county superintendant's office for more tha.I'` year, and one Id which the qducation of the patrons ot the In volved schools has been gradual but sure. Such progress has been made with the work that petitions are al ready in tile superintendent's office asking for the union of the Pleasant Vidw, and Falryvew distrlcts with the Victor ' school: It .~ assured that these two alhools' Wllt lose their identity at the close of the present year and will become a part of the Victor system. ,Much credh is due J. H. Hoist, principal at Victor, for the moulding of public opinion in favor of this action. On Thursday night President Ham Ilton addrebsed the patrons of district No. 22, known as the Willow Creek school, and aroused much interest in the movempnt to consolidate this school MIith the C~rvallis schools. In doing. iway with these smaller rural schools where consolidation with a larger district is poss4ble, the strongest of arguments present themselves. The cost of education per pupil is probably the strongest, although the bettering of the pupil's educational environment is not to be lost sight of. Taking the Willow Creek school as an exam ple, statistics at the office of the county superintendent show that $865 per year is paid per pupil to school 11 pupils for seven months. In Cor vallis the cost is less than $40 for nine month's schooling. In case this school joins forces with thie Corvallis district it will ,be an easy matter to transport the pupils to the school eis no pupil will be required to travel more than five miles. In case of con solidotion with another school, the district owns the wagon to be used in transporting the pupils. Friday afternoon Dr. Hamilton ad dressed the patrons of district No. 24, which will ubdouhtedly unite with the Victor school, as will the ('urlew dis trict, where he spoke o~ FPriday even ing. Tonight he spoke at the Bass schllol, which is in line to join thll Stevensville district. Mrs. Ia also spoke at the Pass school yesterday. Although the consolidation system has been successfully tried out In other statas,. it is. newa_-,ulwaana. This county has the honor of being "the first In the state to adopt tills meth od of bettering the rural schools.
