COMPROMISE IMPOSSIBLE Tie in Committee Results in Attempts to Fix Number of Regional Banks Wilson and His Followers Stand Pat for Eight Branches-Owe It to the Country to Get Busy. Washington, Nov. s.-With the sen ate banking antl currency committee deadlocked in its consideration of the administration currency bill, a call was issued tonight for a conference of senate democrats next Wednesday to discuss the measure. The call was issued by Senator Swanson of Vir ginia, who circulated the petition for the call on authority from Senator Kern, who is out of the city. Sena tor Swanson decided upon this course after an adjournment of the commit tee for the day, and after he had vis ited the White Hlouse and talked with President Wilson. All day the couinittee wrangled witlhout result over the questioni of fixing the number of regional hanks to administer the new currency system. Half a dozen votes were takein on various propositions fixing the nullherý at from 4 to R. Each vote disclosed a. tie, Senator Hitchconk voling with 11he five republicans against the six re. maining democrats. In vain hre ad-i ministration senators declared that the president was determined to have at least eight regional banks-the tie could not he broken and Senator Shafroth forced an adjournment. No Compromise. After adjournment liii democratic members went into session. An :it tempt was made to seclre a compro mise by which the administration sup porters would yield on ether ploits ii., order to assure eight regional banks.
