During the month of August there passed across the line at Nogaies more than 2000 agricultural laborers en route to Imperial Valley in Cali fornia and Salt River Valley in Ari zona, to work under contract in the cotton fields. From the City of Mexico it is re ported that the great automobile fac tory of Henry Ford, in Detroit, Mich., U. S. A., has requested that there be sent there seventeen youths from Mexico, who desire to become appren tices to the trade or vocation of manu facturing autos and tractors, to fit them to return to Mexico for impor tant employment in the factories that are to be established there by the Ford inerests. It is reported that the first factory will be established at Monterey, at a cost of one million dollars. * American companies operating in Chihuahua and the frontier of Sonora, are said to have requested the Mexi can government to establish a sys tem of safe conduct to protect their tracks and automobiles from raiding by bandits, with which system there would be insured safety in transpor tation of large amounts of gold and silver bullion. A few days since, in the vicinity of Mazatlan, a great aerolite fell into the sea, near the Isla de Piedra, caus i ing a great commotion in the waters and throwing spray a long distance. A committee of prominent and well known lades of both Nogales, has commenced work of solicitation of funds, provisions and clothing to al leviate the distress among the poor of the two towns the coming winter. To assist in the laudable work there will be given in the Hidalgo Theatre a e ’series of theatrical attractions in which a brilliant array of local tal d ent from both cities will participate, -1 and a~ kermess will be given in the - Plaza Trece de Julio. A passenger arriving from the ; south Monday evening reported that on the train going from Guaymas to ( MAzatlan, one day dast wetk, an at . torney named Eudardo Garcia, known well in Nogales, Sonora, where he practiced law a couple of years, was assassinated while the train was pass ing between Guanochil and Naranjo stations, several persons being impli cated in the crime, and four bullets taking effect. He was mortally wounded, and died after reaching Mazatlan. Mr .Garcia had been ap pointed to the post of judge of the first instance in Sinaola.i Governor Estaban Cantu, of the Northern District of Lower Califor nia, has closed the great gambling house, “Techolote,” (“Owl”), at Tia Juana, which has paid in licenses S3OOO per month to the district gov ernment. Mr. Paul Kittewki, representing a large American company, with ample capital, has applied to Governor Can tu, of Lower California, for a conces sion to establish at Tia Juana, near i San Diego, a large brewery, with all , modem improvements, to cost one ■ million dollars. “El Universal,” of the City of Mex ico, information that an Ameri ' can railway company has been grant ! ed a concession to construct a road from Sasabe, a point on the interna- I tional line, to Port Lobos, on the Gulf.
