Each stage In his career acted as a stepping stone to his great, achieve ment. Perhaps he was born under a lucky plane!. Anyway, he was foi tunate enough to be the son of an actor and received an early training in piaglc, Juggling and acrobatics. He mastered some of these arts before in had finished the third reader. After leaving school lie traveled with hb ! father apd became more efficient in the art of entertaining. Then followed the period in the newspaper business as cartoonist. Drive. The fact that this drive i dot now properly appreciated by th automobile owners of Nogales is th. lewness of it and the further far oh at is has not yet been improved s ;s to make driving over it so pleasure able as could be desired. The drive is especially favorable feu m afternoon or evening drive, bu until the road is put in first class con i tion, which now seems probable ol ichievmeni in not very distant lu ure, cave should be used to avoid the :anyon part of the road after dark. At this time of the year short trips on part of the load at various' daces will enable pleasure seekers :o view some of natures grandest cenery and right now armfuls of wile .owers can be gathered in a few min ates time. The drive leads out the Patagonia oad nearly to the Santa Cruz rivei >ridge, and this part of it is well mown already for affording real sec ie views to those who care to drive low and permit themselves the plea ure of viewing uie mountain views ust at the point where the straight way to the bridge starts, a road tranches off o the 'Vest, and this s the road we take for the Guebabi -oop. It runs in a wes’.etrly direc ion along the sounth bank of the riv ■i' for a distance of about four miles, rithln which distance is passed the uins of the old Guebabi Mission (on he north side of the river, and ac cssable by a ford for those who now the river and the exact loca ion of the crossing) and the Tit- i •omb Lake Farm. The Guebabi Mission is now only i i pile of adobe ruins, yet these ruins 1 mark the oldest mission building in the Jnited States,, and are likely in the ot far distant future to be made ne of the historical landmarks of ;ie country. Along this portion of the drive .here are many delightful camping J pots with shade and water for pic- j ucing purposes. About a mile beyond the Titcomb farm the road leaves the river and runs in a southwesterly direction to -he Tucson highway, coming into the latter about six and a half miles fffcr- i th of Nogales. At present the road j ilt.ig lliis stiech runs for a distance j ihrough a narrow rocky canyon; and 1 ■are should be exercised before eafcer- ' ng this canyon to stop the car and isten cirefully to make sure no wag- i >n or automobile is approaching from [ he opposite direction. At the point where the new | "’out fence leaves the road is a good \ dace to park the car and take a walk ! 'own through one of the many can /ons between the road and the riv -L Tie re are innumerable picnicing ’ grounds of delightful propinquity. At daces along here, too the water of he river is forced up from its cool ind sandy underground channels by ihe bedrock, and cascades over the , defts through canyons of sold rock 1 .vom by ages of passing water. It is the intention of the copnty authorities to shortly make repairs I ind new construction to this drive, ; md already that oprtion of it along j ; he Patagonia road and down the dver as far as the Titcomb farm has Jden put in good order. The road will be taken out of the canyon on "he west of the Titcomb farm and run on the mesa to the north of the j -anyon, anw will probably come out j ->nto the Tucson highway undeT the i ailroad track some three hundred ! eet north of the present grade cross ing. The distance covered in covering j .he Loop from leaving Uogales until 1 returning will be about eighteen miles and as said before, such a drive out many cities would be advertised is one of their most valued posses sions Irom a scenic and pleasure point as view.
