A weil known gentleman of this plnce.but wlioa nnme we are not at libeity to us'',owing to hts sensitive", ness under Hie public eye, has had a couple of adventures within the pant few days that came very near costim; him Lis life, especially in the nrsl instance, lie had started fioni V ickenlmrg on a trip to the Centennial Mill in the Haeu3v.tr mountains a distance of some eigh Y miles on horseback expecting to find tsnks of water on the way and carried only a canteen for his own use. He was noi thorough ly acquaintid w:th the country and being aniious to push forward, a direction was given him which would tTe 8' me twelve miles from the regular route. The result was that he was lost among the burning sand?, his water supply gave out and for thirty-f-ix hours he wander ed in a bewildered condition. Fi lially beioming weak and fearing that there was danger of losing his mind he bound himself to the sad dle aud a'lowtd bis au;mal to take its n ay which strangely enough had been endeavoring to turn to the north while he kej.t pulling her to the south asluog as he had strength, the direction he was traveling being west. Alter giving way to what seemd Ibe irs'inct of the mare.slie took her own course and in about six hours brought him out at Cul lunTs station, and to water; neither had tasted a drop of water for about thirty-six hours, over twenty four of which was under the burn lug sun. Strangely to say this was not the last ot his experience in this line though he reached the mines in safety. Snor ly after aniving there provisions ran low and the superins tendi-nt borrowed ttte gentleman's horse to go out to the settlements to get a loud of provisions but was disappointed in getting them and getting back, and th2 four day's pro visions had run out and nothing beard from those coming. The m n starved as long as they could and then .-ct out on foot to travel over the long stretch of country between the Hacuavars and Vulture, carrying Hbeir canteens aDd bottles of water. Their water, however, was exhausted before they could make the distarce, acd again our frierd experienced the horrors of ibirs! as he had done a few days bifore.t bough this time be was not lost although on an unfrequented road. After traveling for a day and night the men separated, the strong er" pushing forward. The gentle man to whom we reftr remained behind and that day came, across a little btrip where rain' had fallen t- and Uocd in little puddles on the road, from which he got some relief, antf finally was met by a friend with water and 'a borne, from Vulture, those, who had pushed forward having reached that place. Altogether it was a rough expert ence ' and oco which our friend thinks be will not soon be caught in again. From Saturday's Daily. The Frescott papers inform u that the Halapai Indians are again in a starving condition, and suggest that some action should be taken to relieve them. The Sentinel in speaking of the unexampled time made in putting a temporary bridge over the Colorado savs: "The first train crossed the bridge on Wednesday afternoon and since tnen, they have followed each other in rapid succession. The building of this bridge presents re mar kable eviiier.ee of tbe power of money combined with knowledg and energy. It took exactly a week to complete it. Much credit is dne Sclh Green, who has had charge of tbe construction, and the employes under him, for this work. It is dif- cult to realize that a bridge of this size cou'd be constructed in so short a time, whin one considers tbe many difficulties embraced in the poweilul current of the Colorado river, tbe shifting bottom, the op posing boulders and the danger and (lifhcul'y in managing pontoons in a stream full of rapids and whirl, pools. The bridge ts a temporary one to enable the crossing of trains until a permanent structure can be erected . 1 he Sentinel tenders con gratulations to Mr. Green and em playes for having exceeded their promises as to time rpquired in the perloimance of tlieir work. They have performed an astonishing feat. It is reported that a gang of horse and cattle thieves have established headquarters in the impregnable fastnesses of the Superstition moun tains which lie 4Q miles to the north of Jloreuce. A large number of cattle and horses have been missed frotu the vicehiiy of Whitlow sta tion and Final recently, arid Messrs.
