New Yohk, Oct. 8 The following 13 Mr. Tildeu's response to the com mittee of the National Democratic convention, conveying to him the resolutions of that body: Guaystone, Oct. 6, 18S4. To the Chairman and Gentlemen of the Committee: I thank yon for the kind terms in which 3'ou have communicated the ;esol tit inns con cerning me, adopted by the la'e Democratic National convention. I share 5'cur conviction.-, tliat n foini n the administration of the federal government, w:ii3h is our great na tional want, and is indeed essential to the restorat ion and preservation of the government usc-lf, can oi;ly be achieved through the agency of the Democratic party and .y ihe iu- staliii'g of its representative as Chief Magistrate of ihe United States. The noble historical tradi tions of the Democratic patty, the principle in which it was educated and to which it has ever been iu Hie main faithful, its freedom from cor rupt influences, which grow up in the prolonged possession of power, and the nature of the elements which constitute it, all contribute to qualify it for thai mission. The odposite character is thai which rtl- laehes to the Republican parly and makes it hopeless to expect that that party will be able to give a better government than the debasing sys tem of abuses which oiiritig its as ceude; cy has ititeced official and political lite in this country. The Democratic part ha i its origin in ihe efforts of ihe advance.l patriots of the revolu ion to resist the per version of our government from the ideal contemplated by the people. Among its conspicuous founders are Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jeffer son, John Hancock of Massachu setts, Geoige Clinton and Robert R. Livingstone of New York, George Wythe and James Madison of Vir ginia, and horn the election of Air. Jefferson as President in 1800, for sixty years the Democratic party mainly directed our national policy. It extended the boundaries of the Repub.ic and laid the foundation of till our national greatness and pure ystem of domestic administration. On ihe other hand the Republican parly has always been dominated by he principles which favor legjsla ioii lor the benefit of particular las-es at the i-xeen.se of the boiy of the people. The republican party is la'ge.y made up of those who live I y their wits, and who aspire in po litics lo the advantages of the rest of mui.kiud, similar to those whose da ily lives are devoted to seeming in private business. Ihe democratic party toi.sists largely of those who ljve laigrly fiy the work of their hands and whose political hcIios is gove-Tied by the sentimeni'or iinagi- uoti n of lis results. . Tneri the de mocratic more readily than the re- pu bliean party can be moulded to the support of reform by measures which involve a sacrifice of selfish iuterest. 'Ihe indispensable necessity of our times a change of adminis- tiati n in the great executive offices of the country. This in my judg ment can only be ace-orophshed by tin- election of the democratic Candi da es for president and vice presi dent. (Signed) Sami el J. Tildkn. MASSACRED BT ARABS C IRO, Oct 8 VI.
