He has an elbow Bed two rib broken, and is oooeider&b'y bruised, but will probably be about in a abort time. A few weeks ago Al Baker and Mar tin Baker started out on a prospecting trip, "Btaked"by Wm. The world is full of trouble and even the good people of tbe south side get their share. In traveling the troub lone path of life we frequently come to a place where the road forks, Bnd with the best intentions in the world soma of us will always turn the wrong way, but unfortunately there are times when it is hard to find out which path is tbe right one. Man is prone to look out for his own interests first and let bis neighbor take care of himself. A case of this kind developed in Tempe yeeter day, and while all oonoerced have rights that are entitled to consideration, it seems as though however it may be de cided some one will have to suffer. The southern bracoh of the Tempe canal furnishes water to the oanaigre fields and a cumber of small ranches as well as stock and pasture water for some of the leedlcg cattlemen and al falfa raisers. At this season of the year, in order to supply ample water for the oanaigre fields and those at the lower end. the canal needs cleaning. At least suob seems to be tbe opinion of Messrs. J. E Price and M. Worm ser, two of tbe three canal directors, and who are interested in the oanaigre fields. Accordingly Mr. Price placed n tapoon near tbe head of the ditoh two or three days ago. Iu tbe night follow ing it was removed by some person or persons seemingly unknown to tbe pub lic. Next day the tapoon was replaced and an offioer put in charge. Yester day the oanal was dry enough to clean and Mr. Price put a force of men at work. Meanwhile the cattlemen had been thinking up their case and a method of BOtioc. They olaim that the raaohers along the canal engaged in alfalfa raising and pasture renting are entitled to water when it is tbere ready for delivery. They say that past ex perience has taught them that it takes about two weeks to olean tbe ditoh dur ing which time their pasture would suf fer greatly and stock would either die or lose the accumulated flesh of the season and that they were already feel ing the effsots of tbe artificial drouth and some had already begun moving their stock to other portions of the val ley at an expense to themselves and loss to the ranchers. Accordingly last even C M Mullen representing the interests ofHsgan.WA Bolton, Mr. Jacobson and Mr. Collins the egeut of Mr. V. Gant went up and again removed the tspoon allowing the water to pass dowc tbe oanal. Mr. Price then b6d them arrested and tbey in tbe meantime had sworn out a warrant for Mr. Pioe's ar rest. This brings all concerned into court where the matter will probably be settled. There was more or less warlike demonstration yesterday and some talk of personal encounters bu better judgmen prevailed as all are seeking their rights rather than noto riety or trouble. IB.
