IN MEMORIAM.
“She is not dead”—the child of
thine affection: but gone unto that
school where she no longer needs our
poor protection, and Chriit himself
doth rule.
In that great cloister's stillness and
seclusion by guardian angels led, safe
from temptation, safe from sin's pol
lution, she lire*, whom we call dead,
Hod in His all-wise judgment, see
ing fit to remove from the midst of
her family Florence DeFranct, loving
daughter and only child of our es
teemed sister, Sarah Rountree
We, the members of Lone Star
Chapter No. 15, 0. E. S., extend to
Sister Rountree in this her sad hour,
our heartfelt sympathy, and pray
“He, whose star in the east we have
seen,” will comfort her. “We have
been sad together. We have wept
with bitter tears o'er the grass grown
graves, where slumbered the hopes of
early years. The voices which sre
silent there, would bid thee clear thv
brow. We have been sad together."
Oh’ what shall part us now?

THE STATESMAN, DENVER, COLORADO.
Franklin Pierce’s "Boring."
Judge Kastman of Manchester. N
IT., re’ated that at one tints Ocn
Franklin Pierce was opposed tc the
Hon. Matt Hubbard in eoidc cause In
a New Ham p litre court. The gt n
oral’s strong-point was his Influenci
over a Jury, and in this particular case
the eyes of every Jurjman were suf
fused with tears by his pathetic plead
ing.
Mr. Hubbard, in a stuff voice, said
In his reply: “Gentlemen of the Jury,
understand that I am not boring for
water.” And this opening complete
ly neutralized the effect of the gen
eral’s eloquence.
