Ledyard is no more, he was most wantonly murder ed after he had' surrendered himfelf a pri {oner.—Arnold was heard to enquire for particular houles, for the express purpose of burning them, and from their aciions 1t fully appears, that they deliberately deter mined to plunder and burn private dwelling - koufes ; to distress the poor, the widow and the fatherlefse=They left fort Trumbull, the cannon, and all warlike appurtenances in good order.==The fort at Groton is also left in good order, the barracks and maga zines fafe with 45 barrels of powder having only knocked off some trunnions : They have only distressed the poor innocent inha bitants : The more than savage barbarity of _tacfe troops at Groton in murdering the garrison afcer furrendery, the tossing the wounded into a waggon, and roling it down the steep hill of Groton, over ledges of rocks, witha design it thould run them into the sea, cannot be expressed. _ ¢ Poor Capt, Shap 4 was one wounded ia the fort, and of the Amber of those that was thrown into this waggon ; he told me the officers damn’d the soldiers, and bid them set the waggon a going, and the thake it gave them at its bringing up againfta tree, half way down the hill, was mare dif trefling than the wounds received.
