The tannery owned and occupied by

of hide, though they have a large amount
of wood and bark on band. We learn

Estcllo Wetherell, nine years of aire,
daughter of A. L. Wetherell, came near
toning an eye, aud perhaps her lite, by
running on the benches in the school
room. She fell striking on the sharp cor
ner of a bench, inflicting a wound In close
proximity to her eye. She was carried j
homo ueai ly insensible, aud is now doing
well. Thi should be a warning to both
teacher and scholars. Mr. Wetherell
ba another daughter very sit k with ty
phoid pneumonia and two children sick
with croup.
Considerable excitement exists iu
school district No. 2 iu regard to owner
ship of the laud on which the house ttands
and it immediate vicinity. Parties who
claim to own the land and who fenced It
up lat-t spring were indicted at the recent
term of the County Court but on tiial the
Jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
The school house has been built thirteen
years and ha had free use of the land,
and the people of the district are some
what surprised at the result of tbi flank
movement.

Several of the young people of litis

a ball on the evening of tlm third of July,
at the hall of Mr. L. A. Bennett, In the
west part of the towu. A committee
consisting of Messrs. M. ,1. Covey, J.
Beittly, tieorge lioyt, U. S. Ilurd, W. T.
Heiiney and A.M. Hamilton have the
matter iu charge, and we ure assured
these gentlemen intend to tuiike this a
pleasant and agreeable party for those
who wish to altcud. Burl's Cotillion
Band of Juckson, have been engaged for
the occasion, and the pi ke of tickets have
been fixed at the moderate sum of two
dollars. All who intend will be properly
cared for by Mr. Bennett.
Another of the old residents of this
towu is about to leave il to make his fu
ture residence iu the fur west. Mr. Des
mond Prindle with his family, intends
leaving for Fort Dodge, Iown, tho pres
ent week, where he will reside. Mr.
Priudle ia ouc of the most respected citi
zens, aud his departure will be regretted
by his many friends here.
We are pleased to learn that Mr. It.
S. Ilurd intends rebuilding his factory
immsdialely on the ground lately occupi
ed by the one destroyed by fire. He bus
already ordered new machinery, and In
tend to have bis building ready to com
mence business by the first of August
next.
We see that some of the residents
here are improving and repairing their
home. Among these are Mr. George
Draper, iu tho west part of tho town, aud
Mr. M. J. Covey, near thq Arlington
line. Both residence will present an
improved appearance when completed.

A large number of persons from this
vicinity attended Buriium' great show at
Uutliind on Saturday last. All were
highly pleased with the entertainment its
well as the accomodations afforded by
Mr. F, C. White, Superintendent of the
lliuleiii Extension Uailroud for getting
them there.
Several refrigerator curs, for the milk
trade, have just been completed nt the
shopsol the Arlington Manufacturing Co.
for theN.Y. 11. & M. It. It. whose in
itials they bear. The finishing touches by
way of )ettcrini was done by Itutledge of
ltutlund and of course is well done. These
car will. bear close examination, both In
regard to stele aud workmanship. The
Car Company have been linking addi
tions to their works to keep up with their
increasing business.
One of the first benefit sucn from our
new railroad airatigemeiits, was I he ap
pearance on Monday of a drawing room
car running from New York to Manches
ter on the evening train and hack to New
York on the noon train. A very desira
ble arrangement fur the. comfort of Sum
mer traveler to our mountain retorts.
We were visited by the long looked
for relresbiug shower on Monday after
noon, which ha made the face of all na
ture hereabout look glad.
