ahort time. Being, as it Is, a true rep'
resentiitlve of an old Texan town,
rejuvenated by a rewnt Introduction of
railroads, Its whole life Is on the hup
face, and to be seen at a glance. It
claims eight thousand people and has
eighty-five drinking and gambling
saloons, six hotels and four ehurcheH,
In a business point of vlow, It wears a
lively and healthy aspcot, and though
the buildings in whleh its mercantile
business are carried on, are not of the
most pretentious und stately, nor their
arrangements of the most orderly anil
systematic, kind, a large amount of
both wholesaling and retailing monn,
mt all in the true Texau style. Our
party were very hospitably received
and entertained, and the far North and
the extreme South met together in the
most cordial manner possible. Hood
wine flowed freely and speeches of
hearty welcome and good will were
made. A Federal and a Confederate

This Palestine Advocato has tho fol

Koott, whose death was annouueed
several days ago: "Judge Scott came
to this place In I860, from whence no
one, that we are aware of, has ever
learned; he engaged in teaching a pri

vocation he continued until June, 1801
when he entered tbe Confederate serv

In the ranks of the illustrious Hood
Brigade, ho won no distinction at all,
and In 1804 returned to Texas, and suc

General Robertson's staff with the

atump lu favor of E. J. Davis for Gov

party. Ilia most distinguished service
to the Radical party was rendered lu
the contested election case of Lane

islature lu the aprlng of 1870. During
this year be wan appointed by Gov

tbe tenth judicial district, which post

peachment In the month of April of
the present year, before the 18th Legis

meanor lu offloe. His trial was post
pon?o until the Btn or February, 1874.
" Everything connected with his lire

"From 1701 to lKiltl tho law was
