THE DALLAS HEIiALD, T UK DAY MOKM NJ, PECEMUEK 20, 1881. TUB CHAMIIERi KlLMSti. . jUhe Verdtct nf the Jury of Inquest. 'Iho bloody, killing of R. A. The killing continues to he the main topic of conversation, und varied and wild are the rumors nlhint pro and con concerning the utlair. A mere remark in a case of this character when it has run its course develops nmst wnmlerfiillv until it become a moun tain of idle, malicious fancies. The sym pathy of the gum-rut public, appears to be with the deceased. The f.ictlhat lie was shot iu the buck, without warning, is gen erally condemned; yet, on the other blind. Mr. Freeman hasu number of warm sup porters, wko are of tlie opinion that ho did the correct thing. On further investigation ol the mailer it was learned from James 'Chambers, a son of the deceased, that his fatherlunl never been absent from homo at any springs, nor had he ever been out of tuo ritv over iwentv-iuur nours in n time during the past year. It will be remembered thai Freeman charires that Chambers fallowed his wife to tho snrini.s, (said to he Hot. Hprings) and that lie assumed his, (Freeman's) name and registered wilh his wife as her husband. Mrs Chambers has to the great gratilira tion of her friends, rceovcied her iniml, ami her change lo enncionsness was accompan ied by the most profound grief. A silly rumor wts afloat on the streets to the ef fect that Mrs. Chambers had committed suicide, which was entirely without found ation. Suniluv Freeman was escorted from the jail by Jpuly HbrrifT Hmitli to the office of Iiis attorney, Messrs. Clint it Thomp son, with whom he remained closeted tin niest of the day. .fudge H. llurksdule bus also been retained by tlie defense as associ ate counsel in the case.
