Tho citizens mooting culled to meet yesterday afternoon at i o'clock nt the Merchants Exchange, to discuss nnd consider tho water question, was fiiirly attended. Jules Schneider was called to tho chair. Tho Chair stated that there was a scarc ity of water, both for fire and homo purposes and the merchants and business men had doomed it advisable to meet and discuss the situation. It was calculated to cause heavy insurance and ho under stood thero were some residences in por tions of tho city which tho water failed to reach at its present low stage. Mayor Cabell, who was called for, stated that tho Council had been labor ing hard for gome time on tho water question. Tho City Council had em ployed experienced hydraulic engineers to make a survey of 'Dallas in order to ascertain hur water facilities, and their report was now, with tho propositions referred to, in tho hands of the Waler Conmiissioncr, who had the same under consideration. Tho river pump was be ing placed In position, and within tho next two days at farthest a sullicient supply of water from tho river for tire purposes would bo had. A forco was at work cleaning out tho works, nnd the supply would bo in creased in a few days, and ho thought it wotCtl bo adequate to bridge over until a more abundant supply was secured. Alderman J. This waler would percolate through tho gravel and aiinil to ilio main spring and come out purified bv tho process, in the meantime the Commis sion was endeavoring to perfect a per manent supply. Mr. Hugh lilakneyaddrcssed the moot ing, and appeared to favor boring arte sian wolls. Mr. J. T. Trezevant,. who was callod on, explained, in a brief way, his gang well system, and stated the terms of their proposition to tho City Council, which was to tho efl'cot that tlicy agreed to fur nish the city an ample supply of water for five years at f lu,KK per annum, giv ing the city the privilege of purchasing the works at tho expiration of that timo for ;tu,Ouo, or frW,(HWnt tho end of ton years, etc. Ho Raid that in his opinion this was one of the best underground watered soctions in tho Union.
