THE CRUSADE AGAINST TEXAS V CATTLE. It looks as if the cattlemens' trouble relative to a trail through the Indian Territory would never cease. Time and again the Interior Department has declared that the whole power of the government would be used if neces sary to keep opon this trail, but ust as often the Syndicates leasing or oc cupying the Indians lands havo defied the government and attempted to ob struct the driving of Toxas cattle into Kansas and'.Colorado. It waB openly oharged upon Tbllbr that while talk' Ing to the public in one way he was secretly reassuring the Northwestern syndicates in another and more posi tryeway. From Teller, Hon. Olin Wellborn repeatedly received such assurances that the trail should be kept open as did Govhunoh Turook Morton, inoso gotiemon were per sistant In behalf of the Texas cattlo In terests. But Mn. Lamar is not "in with" the Western syndicates. He owns no in terests in Colorado and the Northwout with which Texas cattlo conflict, and it may bo confidently assumod he will not lend himsolf to the Northorn syndicates who are trying to keep our cattlo out of tho Northorn market, or force thorn to resort to railways and othor costly means of transportation Taken to Wyoming, Montana or Colo rado, the Toxas cattle become fatter, hardier mid sell bettor in a vorv short while than do tho native cattlo there, hen no tho wild doHiro to check tholr introduction. Every scheme, tho "Texas fovor" scarce, the "pleuro pneumonia" humbug, the repeated ob structions of tho trails have boon re sorted to to check tho Influx of our herds, but always with poor success. But, great interests being at slake, the obstructionists are persistent. Bnt tho brazon impudence of these men in the Indian Territory Is equal to their moanness aud persistence. Thoy are In the Torritory;only by suf- foranoe. Tho patchod-up leases tuoy have are hardly worth the paper they are written on, uuder the plain stat utes of tho United States, and were bs- Bidos in a cumber of cases obtained by fraud. Many have not even the ques tionable llconse of an Indian lease, and yet they notify our stockmen that the dominion belongs to Eastern and forolgn capitalists and syndicates and that the Texan will not ovou be per mitted to drlvo through it. In defiance of law and justice they have obliter ated the old roads, fenced In the whole Indian Territory and insolently say to all others, "keep oil thoso domains." In view of a new administration, and especially in view of the recent em phatic announcement of Sbcrbtary Lamar, it is to bo hoped and expected thatToxas stockmen will at least bo roliovod for some years of this long contlnusd trouble over tho trail. St. Lorishas negotiated nonrly 1,- 000,009 of its $1,000 bonds in New York, bearing 4 per cunt, interest and paya blolu'0 yoars, at $1,01.12.
