Powell of Kerenes filled his reg ular appointment at Plalnview, and delivered a powerful sermon at the noon hour to a nice audience. Rev. Dr. M. Hollis, filled his regular ap pointment with Shadr Grove C. Mi E. Church Sunday. Sunday School at all of the other churches was well attended. The Colored Coun ty Agent of the Agricultural work of Cherokee County informed the reporter, that the Colored people of Cherokee County will " pull off a grand fair at Jacksonville Texas, October 28th. 29th and 30th and requests that all Colored farmers and other men of enterprises to put on exhibits of their respective lines in this great Fair. Several Community Exhibits all over the entire county has created a gen eral interest and this announcement comes to fill a long felt want. It Is the request of the Agent (Prof. G. W. Crouch of Jacksonville) that every Colored family send an ex hibit, of some of his line of busi ness of farm work. From the inter est manifested in ne community exhibits in different parts of the county, this Is going to be a grand occasion and everybody Is Invited to attend. . . A branch of the American Cotton Alliance held a meeting in the City Park at Jacksonville last Saturday to ad- -ivlse the farmers here as to the best methods .to follow in handling the present cotton crop as the re porter was at present the results. of this meeting is not known. The cotton market at this place' continues to decline. Cotton sold on the streets here Saturday for 19 3-4 cents and the farmers are abount through gathering the cotton crop here. Mr. Geo. The Baptist were aiding Miss Pearl Croff, who was aspiring to a scholarship in Cen tral Texas College; the A. M. Es were assisting Miss Josephine Floyd who is effortlnir for a scholar-hip to Paul Quinn College. The Baptist snowed their loyalty to Miss ' Croff by raising $412.45, while the A. M. E's. -demonstrated -their unswerving devotion to Miss Floyd by raising $75.25. Unprecedented interest was manifested on both sides. The con test proper was preceeded by a very befitting literary and musical pro gram. A feature worthy of special aiention was the closing address by Rev. D. E. Matthews, local minister of St. John Baptist Church, who was "proxy' for his pastor. . Rev. A. L. Wright Mr. Matthews' speech was decidedly a masterpiece. His woros were logical, his thougbte preemi nently edifying. His phraseology gramatlcally correct and his voice unmistakably ofDelous. . Interment, will be made in Springfield, Mo., where her relatives reside. . Mr. and Mrs. Pheonlx were form erly of ' Dallas, having moved to Denver, three or four years ago, and resided near the- corner of Cochran and Boll streets. Both were leading members of Bethel A. M.
