Ham, to de clare to the state that "1 am intoler ant. I aui dogmatic." That infor mation tells North Carolina nothing; it did uot know before. If the. knowledge had not been general previously, it would have been gained by reading Mr. llam's words to the Baraca-l'hitathea meeting, j "His denunciation of W. (). Saunders is entirely beside the point Mr. Saunders made. The; 11 nest ion in that controversy was; one of fact. The evangelist lnadej cerfain statements which the editor sought to disprove. They were notj primarily on religious matters but on the contrary dealt with the mo tives of a citizen of Chicago, and on that issue the editor brought i forward certain evidence which un questionably carried weight. But the answer to the editor now is calling him "one of the crankest of inttdels" and reciting certain charges against him. precisely in the man ner of a boy of 12 saying. "You're another." Nor will it be convinc ing to the state to hear the evan gelist declare that "all the modern ism which is twins propagated in your public schools today corn s right from Itussia and from der ma ?y." and that "the campaign" ajninst the Tennessee anti-evolu tion law "is Ileitis waged from Kus sia." such statements as that neces sarily weaken much else that Mr. Ham does say. Besides, somebody like Mr. Saunders might clunk up ou him attain. "There is a tine field for genu-. iue evangelism and it ought to ln? ? occupied. But we question wheth er boasting of bigotry does much to further the kingdom of God." t'harity and Children. Baptist weekly, commented thnsly: "Mr. 11am was unfortunate in; boasting of his ititoleratiee in his Raleigh s|ieeeh. I if course every one knew that it was true la-fore he said it. but it is nothing to brag about." HI RT IN COLLI SION A collision at tho*hridge across; rerquiiuans river between two Ford touring cars, one driven by K. P. One great burst of applause mark ed the meeting and Judge Brooks provoked it. He opened his re marks with the statement that the o.OOO people present did not spring from monkeys. That one thing evoked a demonstration surpassing any of the testimony to the Omni potent Mr. 11am represented. This evolution business the Pro phet said when it came his time to take over the meeting, is nothing! hut* an effort on the part of some folks to defend their friends, who are teaching the damnable stuff, and defend them at any costs. And here, again, he revealed his smartness. "Jesus Christ was crucified by the learned sadduces and aristo crats of his day." the Prophet said. It was up to the followers of the Prophet to carry on. The old Sadducees had said thatj no man believes on him except the unlettered rabble. The Modernists and the old Sadducees are so much alike as two peas in a pod. Possi bly the Prophet did not mean to arouse any prejudices. "You can go to college." he said, "and get a car load of these preach ers who are trying to defend evo-| lotion and then get some uneduca ted preachers from the smnll towns (Mr. Ham is a degree holder him self, according to report) and the uneducated man wil get a hundred converts while the others are get ting one. "It isn't long." Mr. Ham said, "before Jesus is coming to give endorsement to all we (the plural number, always) have preached and answer every intidcl theory of to-day." .Making $50,000 A Year.
