Bank of Manteo| Opens Doors To More Business Business swung back to normal in Dare county Fri day morning as the Hank of j Mautco opened its doors for 100 per cent service under the; endorsement of the Slate Hanking department, (.us-j turners who came to the tell-j er's window all through I'ri-l day and Saturday, depositing j cash and checks accumulated dur-j ing the national bank holiduy i which swelled receipts for the two days to a figure greater than de posits for any similar period in the i bank's 28 years of existence. j Final approval for the ending of; the bank holiday as far as the local j institution was concerned was ac-1 cc:dtd by the North Carolina Bank-1 ing department at a conference held 1 at Raleigh Thursday night at which! every member of the board of direc- j tors of the Bank of Manteo were in j attendance. Though uction upon j the application of the local bank for re-opening was necessarily delayed due to the fact that some 200 sucn applications had claim to prior con sideration. no difficulty was experi enced in satisfying all requirements of the state department when its application was rechud. As a fruit of the conservative policy of ths board in the past in strictly limit ing the total amount of loans to any one individual, little of the bank's paper was classed as frozen by the State examiners and directors of the bank readily posted ample secur ity for any such paper as well as for sums due from banks in other parts of the state which have not yet been granted permission to open. Officers and directors of the bank express the belief that the Bank of Manteo has entered upon an era which will entrench it even more firmly in the regard of the people of the county. Already a number of accounts of Dare county people, | previously carried in other banks ' have been placed with the local in jsiitution. Re-opening of the bank 1 was followed by a decided stimula ! ticn of trade in the section, as fish ermen were able to handle out of town checks without delay and mer chants generally report a decided [ upward trend in business. ( Bank officials express their ap preciation of the confidence reposed in the bank through the period of national emergency, and look upon the very thoroughness of the exami nation by the state department and the rigity of its requirements for re opening as a powerful influence in restoring confidence throughout the country and bringing back prosper ity.
