On application to tne suhscrikr one of the Ju Iges ol the Orphans Court ot Charles county by petition in writing of Charles Knott ot Char es County for the benefit of the act of assembly, for the relief ot insol vent debtors, passed at Nov. sesion, 1805: and tbe several supplements thereto on the terms mentioned therein, a schedule of his property and a li®tof creditors, on oath, so far as be can ascertain them, being annex ed to hi* petition, and beinkj satisfied by competent testimony, that the said Charles Knott, has resided two years immediately prereeding the time of his application, in the state of Maryland, and being also satisfied that the said Charles Knott is in actual con finement for debt, and no other cause, and the said Charles Knott, having entered into bond tvith sufficient security, for his person al appearance in Charles County Court, to answer such allegations as his creditors may make against him. It is thereupon ordered and adjudged, that the said Charles Knott be discharged from Imprisonment, and that by causing a copy of this order to be insert ed in some one ot the newspapers edited in the district of Columbia, once a week tor two months successively before the third Monday in Angust next, he give notice to bis creditors to appear before the said court, at Port Tobacco, in said county, on the said third Monday in August next, for the purpose of recommending a trustee for tbeir benefit, and to shew cause, if any they have, why the said Charles Knott, should not have the benefit of the several insolvent laws of this state as prayed. It is to replenish that deficiency, and fill up, in some measure that diplomatic ske'eton, with its vital pan«’ that a friend of history offers to publish, of he is sufficiently encouraged in that under taking, several authentic coeval documents, collected with care and expense, which will enlighten the civilian, the jurist, and the statesman, on the spirit ol Ihp North Ameri can Federal Compact; while at the same (in;« those precious relict? will supply the histo rian, the philosopher, aud the moralist, with very curious comparative tacts, on the varia tions of public opinion, in the United States with respect to constitutional principle, and on a succession ol events, which are the na tural, if not nectary results ol a pre-ex isting order of things.
