ea of the Constitution. (Houma courier, Oct. 15. j One of the great questions is agitating the public ' at present, in our State, i the defects in the New Con ~ution. Some of our ex iages are in favor of having sConstitutional convention, and hers are in favor of amending the one we have. We are not iafavor of having a constitu tioea convention, yet awhile, but we are in favor of amend ,ments, as we think the defects ean be cured in that manner. We are in favor of changing h.e term of office from four to two years; of separating the cerk of court and recorders' ~ee, also the sheriffs' and tax lectors' office, and of doing way with the assessors' office, making it the duty of the ol.ee Jurors to assess the ty in their respective ; also a few other changes t be suggested. In reference to changing the of office, our late experi has taught us, that when are elected for four years -ead of two, they become less and derelict in their lty, they become altogether - independent as to the rights welfare of Ite people. In d of being public servants y become public masters. s to the separation of the ve mentioned offices we it would be wise for many us: SIt is bad policy to com sheriffs and tax collectors, and recorders' offices to ;it gives too much room afd and corruption. . One man cannot attend offices at the same time, ly when they are so dif in nature. There is a good living petent men in either spo. n of; and lastly, it ~jst the same for the two who holds the 4 offices as for four. %*To the doing away with aesor's office, we certainly by it, and besides the jurors are presumed to more about the value of in their respective peak of the above -. order that the peo Sthink about them, and in to their thoughts subject._ s THIS Fa .-The memorandum of this eections will be found in Sfor reference: Wesdaey, the 8th of No elections will be held , Maryland, Massa Minneota, Mississippi, ,New York, New Jer vana, Virginia and ,most of these ehoos state tickets and Legis In Oolorado the loca the Capital is to be de with the chances in fa the selection of Den Nebraska the proposi wVman's suffrage is to upon.
