B.a. 8. BRt furUler enacted, etc., That within
I thirty days after the first day of July, efghteen
* hundred and seventy-seven, the several Distriot
Judges throughout the State. the parish of Or
leans excepted, shall select and appoint from
among the qualified electors of their several
parishes, four discreet citizens, good men and
true, who with the Oletk of the Distriot Court,
who shall be ex-offilo a member thereof, shall
constitute a Jury Commission for such parish,
and who shall hold their office durang the
pleasure of the Dir riot Judge; the evidence of
mouh selection and appointment shall be entered
upon the mmutes of the District Cougt; and
before entering upon the discharge of their
duty each member of the commission shall take
an oath faithfully to discharge the duties im
posei on them by this act. Three members of
said commission shall b3 a sufcient number to
perform the d tiee imposed by this oact.
8. . 4. Be it further enacted, etc., That within
thirty days after thuir appomtment the members
of esaid commission, or a majority of them, shall
meet at the office of the clrk of the District
Court, and seleet fron the persons qua itled
under this act to serve as jurors f r their re
speoive parishes, the names of three hundred
good and competent men, a list of whom shall
be made out by the cl.k, uader the supetvision
of the commission, and said list shall be kept
complete and supplemented from time to time,
as hereinafter enacted. Each of the names on
said lists shall be written by the said clerk on a
separate slip of paper, together with the number
of the ward or place of residence of su ib per
son, and he slips of naper a containing the
names selected shall be placed in a box, which
stall be labelled "general venirs box," and after
same hse be n to ked and sealed it shall be de
livered to the clerk of the court as the custodian
thereof, and saild box snail not be opened, for

tained therein. It shall be the duty of the clerk
of the district court at each meeting of the com
mission to make a proces verbal of its acts and

BEa. 5. Be it further enacted, etc., That ni
less than fifty days prior to the meeting of evern
jury term of the District Uourt, the members o1
ihejury commiasion shall meet at the cl,rk's of
flee, and one of them in the presence of the
others bhall draw from the general venire box
one at a time, the number of persons required
for sereice at the ensuing term of court; and the
first fty names so drawn shad compose the
grand and pe it jurors for the first week of the
court ; and if in lhe judgment of the commission
a jury ut.y be required, they shall draw in the
sinto manneatr tit ty additi,ual nam ls, t i serve as
petit jurors for e {ch additional wet k th it in their
jtdgmeunt a jury will be reqmtred. The clerk and
the coroiiiiest i chill place the ballots for each
sepeirate weok in envelopes, and seal and in

for the purpose, which, after the names are
so deposited, shall be sealed and locked and
placed in the custody of the clerk of the court
for use at the next term of court. The said
clerk shall keep a record of the drawing with a
a list of all the names in the order they are
drawn, and showing the weoais for which they
are to serve; and when the drawing and proces
verbal is nomple e. shall deliver a copy of the
same to the heriff of the pa ish, who shall with.
out delay proceed to summon all the persons on
said lint to attend upon the se·,ieoni of the" court,

andl h clerk shall cauce a copy of said liats to be
publish .d in the Illeial journal of the parish, if

exempt from road duty during the year in which
they shall terve as jurors; and those jurors who

court; and the several clerks of the district
courts shill, upon the demand of each of such
jurorsat the close of his term of service, issue Ito

praying for the jury to deposit with the clerk of

the judge ex-offico shall order a jury in a civil
case, the plaintiff at all advance and pay to the
