F 'i HANilE CLIPPIN(IR. CIa''T:aNTI, March 11.--Capt. A. J. IRos ar rived yesterday, and is mnking arrangemoents to load the E. t1. F'orten and bargeo for New Or leans, to 1 -ave nertt Tuesday. As the Pool Line will have no boat on berth, she Is loading in the regular line. harry W. Teetor will have charge of the office of the Norten. The wind anated somewhat and thl- onol floet put in nn appearance againl, folow ng each other in nqick eneoseion thrutghout the dy. The foliowinx boatb arrived with coal for this eity b , twoen f6 a. in, and 6i p. t.: Fred Wilson No. 2, Jon. Walton, Hllrnet No. 2, (o00. Lytle, Nellihe Walton, James A. ll tckamore, Grand Lake, Her cules. J. (. Iticher and Tom Dodaworth. The following boats passed down fir Louisville dur ing the same time: B. D. Wood, John Cook, Tom Uees No. 2, N. J. Bigloy, John Dlppold, Jim Brown, Mary Ann, Alice Brown and blnnpson Horner. T,.e Baitic paw.ed down for Madison. The total amenou t brought to this port during the day was 1,478,000 bushels, and 1,040,000 passed down for Louisville. bhe Ge:rge Bob rts brovght the remainder cf her tow down yester day. The Mollie Moore arrived here yesterday with 1100 tons freight, which Is said to bi the largest trip ever brought out on one hull. She put off 110 tone here and took some 30 or 40 and left for St. Louis last night. Geo. Hutill and Lew Pierce were her pilots from here. H. J. ing, chief clerk of the Mollie Moore, will change off on the arrival of the boat at St. Louis to one of Capt. Kountz' mountain steamers. Capt. Dan Moore will take command on the Gald Dust on her arrival here. Louev.LLE--Steamboa men are contemulating the adoption of a new rule which will let ourmer chants and shippers realize the beauties of an old-fogy system of doing things. They propose that the "wharfage at Louisville" shell be insert ed in their bills of lading, or upon their freight bills, and the shipper or consignee shall pay it. They don't propose to take on or put off $2 worth ot freight and pay five times that amount for the privilege of landing here. We don't blame them a bit. They can do better at Evansville or Cin oinnati. Two-thirds of the boats wouldn't stop here at all if they didn't have to buy stores, lay ,n fuel or get a falls pilot. ST. Louis, March 10.-The Grand Republic came in from New Orleans, and was visited by a large number of people. She returns South next Saturday, following the Belle of Shreveport, which goes Tuesday or Wednesday. The Sam. L. Davis will not clear for the Ohio till next week. The Glencoe has been secured to make a trip in the Anchor Line to Vic·ksburg, in place of the Grand Tower, recently disabled. One of the curiosities of the river front is the device by which grain is conveyed from an ele vator at the foot of Chouteau Avenue to barges in the liver. Far above the street and the adja cent levee a sort of bridge is carried on iron col umns, and from the river end of this bridge a chute descends to the boats. Some kind of a screw principle is said to be ntilized in cot.ve ing the grain along its path over the bridge men tioned. The appearanoe of the structure is light and graceful and in no way a disfigurement to the view down the river. MARINE NEWS. OFFICE NEW ORLEANS DEMOCRAT, March 14, 1877. Cleared Yesterday.
