Be it esncted by the ~enate am house qf Representatives qf the State qf Louins ana, in (meneral Assembly convened, That th Governor of this States i hereby an.borlred t appoint, by and with the advice of the lenated It ouch country parishes as he may see fit, addt tional police jurors not exceeding five, who, witl those police jurors elected at the last genera election, shall constitute the police jury of the parish until the next general election. Bho. 2, Be it further enacted, etc., That the pOllce jury of eahon pariah shall, on the first Mon day of July, 1877, meet at the court.house o their respective perishes, and shall redietric their parishes into not lees than five nor mor than ten police jury wards, as the convenience o the people may require, and shall at the same time district these polloe jury wards into one o more justice of the pesoe and election wards, a they may think proper, and shall designate salt wards numerloatly and in consecutive order When the wards have been thus established they shall not be changed without a two-thirc vote of the police jury, recorded by yeas sad nays 8so. 8. Be it furtlhr enacted, et , That the eleo tion for police jurors, justices of the peace san constables shall be held in each ward at the same time as the general election, and that pohice jurors shall be elected by the qualified electors o the police jery ward, and that justices of tbh peece and constables shall be elected by the qualfied electors of the justice of the peace of election ward; and, in order that none but qual fied eletors of the ward shall vote for ward ofl cere, the officers now charged by existing laws of by any amendment thereto are hereby instruotes to provie, at each election poll, a separate box In which the ballots for ward ofiloers shall be de posited, and the returns of said election shall be made separate from the returns of votes cast fot other officers, in the manner required by law. 8ac. 4. Be it further enacted, etc., That I shall be the duty of the President of the polioc jury to order elections to fill vacancies, whiel may occur in the police jury, giving at least toe days notice of the election, by having printed a written notices posted in at least five most publi places in different parts of the ward wherein enot vacancy may oocur, and also by publication it the fhliial newspaper of the parish, if snol offolal newspaper exists in said parish, and the poliee jury shall have the election held acoordin. to the provisions of seotion three of this act. Bao. 8. Be U furter enacted, etc., That mem here of the police jury shall be entitled to a com pensation to be fixed by themselves, which shal not exceed three dollars per day and tea oe an per mle, going to and from the court-house of their respective parishes, for every day they ar aetually employed in the services of their paris at meeting of the police jury to be paid out of the (hfdI of the several partises on the warran of the President, and no more, this allowaneo and per diem, iacluding mileage; provided, thai the police jurors shall not be paid per diem fot more than fifteen dave in any one year. mao. 6. Be it further enacted, etc., That for failure of the President of a police jury to per form any of the duties imposed on him bylaw without reaseonable excuse, he shall forfeit th sum of twenty-five dollars for each failure, to be recovered before any court of competent juriedioc tion by motion of the parish attorney, after three days' notice; and for the failure of any members of the police jury to attend at any meeting, after being duly notified or without notoe, if at a regu. lar session, such member,'if he has no reasons ble excuse, shall forfeit the sum of ten dollar, to be recovered as above; provided, such forfeit area to be paid into the parish treasury. Bxo. 7. Be it further enacted? etc., That the police jurors organized under this act shall have all the power, and perform all the duties pre scribed by the laws of this State, in force at the date of the passage of this act, not in conflioc herewith. SEz. 8. Be it further enacted, etc., That se much of act 97 of the General Assembly of this State, approved April the 27th, 1871, entitled ao act reorganizing the police juries of this State, prescribing the number thereof, and the mode ol electing and fixing their duties and compensa tion, as is in conflict with the provisions of this act, be and the same is hereby repealed. .ac. 9. Be it further enacted, etc., That this act take effect from and after the date ci its passage, and that its provisions shall not ap. ply to the parish of Orleans, and all laws or parts of laws in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed.
