Capt. Nick Theodore, with his Painter No. 2 and barges, were sent om hero to get it out, and, as a matter ofr ours, it was done. The boat was three miles from the river; he towed it some distance nearer, transferred the greater art of the coal to his model barge, and with his powerful towboat brought the whole out, not leaving so much as a lump behind. The John F. Tolle arrived from Sit. Louis Sat. urday night, and is reeiving to return to-morrow. The Emma leves to-day for the Lower CoasM; don't forget it. The Thompson Dean, due to arrive leaves Saturday without fail for the Ohio. The Dean will make an excusion Friday to the jetties. As the Dean is renowned for the regal wanner in which her guests are entertained, a very fine time may with certainty be expected. Full in formation can be had upon inquiry of her agents, Messrs. Capt. Hec. Broad's Sandy No. 2 leaves Wednes day at 5 p. m. for the Atchafalaya. A clerk is on the landing receiving freight. EICIIANOE CLIPPINGL PrrIT nuno, May 2.-The case of Capt. John B MoMillan vs. Capt. J. P. Smith and J. H. Morris, owners of the steamer Geo. Roberts, for in fringement of his patent steam capstan, is to be called up on the 14th. As it is a test case there is considerable interest felt among steamboat men in regard to the result. It is said that new and important evidence will be adduced on the part of the defense in regard to the validity of the patent. EVAN.VIrLE, May 3.-Captr. Lon Rose and Hi Davis are here making engagements for a full load for their respective steamers --the Raven and barges and the Joe means and bai ges. They leave here next week. Capt. Julius Voerhoff arrived here to-day. He has sold to parties in New Orleans the barges Bhalleroes and MYoallem. His other barge, the Little Nell, is being towed here by the Key stone. ST. Loves, May 4.-River rose 4 inches yester day. Space under the bridge 66 feet 3 inches. Heavy rains all yesterday and the previous night, interrupting shipments and the river roads gen erally are in a deplorable condition. Rivers and weather are in a condition to mystify. The pros. peot was recently for a continuance of the rapid decline that had set in. Now there is only trust; a very week reed to lean upon. The telegraph has been extended to Greenville, an important point on the Lower Mississippi. 286 miles below Memphis and 118 miles below Vicks burg. The following is the first itelegram sent ever the new wire to the outside world: GalssalsL, Miss., May 8, 1877.-John E. Scudder, St. Louis: The telegraph is completed to this point. Schenck, writes: "Fifty-two hours to Vicksburg against a big and rising river full of driftwood, and mean weather aJl the way." The little Vigo*and barge have been sold to parties up White river, to ply in that stream. lichard King, of Texas, the largest cattle owner in the world, is a New Yorker. In 1843 he was second cook on a steamboat on the Ohatta. hoochee river. In 1846 he was a pilot on the Rio Grande. His wealth is estimated at from $2,000, 000 to $7,000,000, and his stock is counted by the hundreds of thousands. The new Long Island Sound steamer Masga chuastts began her trip between New York and Fall River last Monday.
