In Mr. Douchereau's annual state anent of the Louisiana sugar crop, which we consider strictly reliable, we find much interesting and valuable inform tion. The amount of sugar manufao" tured in the State last year was 190,872, f70 pounds, with 12,024,108 gallons of molasses, an inorease over the preoed ing year's crop of something over 20, 000,000 pounds of sugar. This crop was made from a little less than 10o,000 acres of cane and the average yield to the aore throughout the sugar region was 1817 pounds of sugar and 114 gallons of moe lasses, worth, approximately, at last season's prices, $186. A State, the soil of which makes such generous returns for the. care and cultivation bestowed ,PC~it, ought rapidly to become rich land rpisperous, as Louisiana is certain /to become within the next few years. The results given above show that at present a system of cultivation much more thorough and efficient is being practiced in the sugar region than was the case prior to the war. When the Louisiana sugar planters made half a million hogsheads of sugar they thought an average of 1200 pounds of sugar to the acre a satisfactory yield, and the average was generally far below this. Last year the gross product of every acre of land whereon cane was grown for the mill was about as much as the value of four bales of cotton, Is there another solid hundred thousand acres of agricultural land in America that produces nearly twenty million dol lars a year ?
