Yesterday was the aottest day of the month,
and bein the last day, w4e dull, though the
lam" Valley and Bart Able had ood tripe.
The Golden City was to have ft at midnlght.

quite a lot of feight to take on.
The Assumption arrived yesterday and left
main ia the evening for the Lafonrole. Capt.
Uharles shortened the stay at the month, on so
count of the moequitoes being too bad to stay
longer. Nevertheless a pleasant trip was en
joyedea will he seen by a card of thanke in an
other part of the DSMo5atT.
The Gov. Allen wilt land at Carrollton this
evening, bringing passengers to the wharf for
the sum of ten cents. Capt. Brown donateq the
proceeds to the orphan asylums.
The Bed River Transportation Company an

Shreveport and Jefferson. C. H. Dorfee, Capt.

The New Orleans and Bet River transportation
Company have closed conitracts for two low water
boate and four barges for the Grand Ebore trade.
The barges will be Insurable, and it is intended
to give the trade better low water service this
season than ever before. With the opening of
the cotton hl4h water season a side-wheel boat
will be placed to the trade, that will be to Red
river what the t. E. Lee. to the Mississippi.
On the 4th Inst. the C. H. Durree, Bt. Mary
and La Belle, will I ave on an excursion to Don
aldeonville, where there is to be a grand military
display.
The La Belle leaves to-day at 4 p. m., for the
Oakland Plantation, as per advertisement in an
other column. This is the last Sunday excursion
of the La Belle. a fact very much to be regretted,
as her trips astrded many a deligtful way to
spenda few hunre. As tiapt. Woods has accept.
ed employment elsewhere for his steamer, we
hope that the captain of some of the other boats
lying idle here, will fll the void.
The Bastrop was towed yesterday to the Ocean
Docks, where she will receive repairs.
Capt. E. B. Trinidad's Independent regular and
reliable Bayou Teche and Atohafalaya, packet
Willie, leaves Wednesday without fail.
Capt. Delahaussaye says the Tom Parker will
be here to leave again for BDuf river Wednes
reka leaves on her grand excursion to
the Gulf, by the way of the Lafourohe, on Thurs
day. Capt. Terrebonue and clerk, Mr. Darling,
have made every arrangement for the acoommo
dation, comfort and pleasure of guests, and are
s striving to make this the excursion of the season.
The fast Charles Morgan leaves here for the
Ohio Wednesday, July 11..
The fine sode-wheel passenger steamer A. C.
Dosnally will arrive this evening and leave for
the Ohio, through to Cinoliunati, to-morrow.

with his Ella ughes, glad to be "at lme again.
Attention Is called to Capt. Barsett's new
schedule, to be found in another column. In a
few days the name of the boat to run in connec
tion with the Martha, will be announced. Capt.
Baseett is a steamboatman every inch of him,
and as he has undertaken to run a daily line to
Port Rads, he will certainly do it. The Martha
will also make an excursion every Saturday,
through the jettlies, out into the Gulf, and around
so Southwest Pass.
Capt. Nick Bounhman, late owner and com
mander of the Garry Owen, died Friday night,
and was buried yesterday.
The Blue Wing No. 8, J. A. Cometock master,
Messrs. Wood and Dean clerks, leaves to-day
at 10 a. m., for the coast, Donaldsonville and the
Ashland plantation.
The semlaweekly coast and Baton Rouge packet

CINOxIIxATX, June 28 -The Ohas. Morgan left
the New Orleans wharf Wednesday, Juno 20, at
6p. nm., and crossed over to the Crescent Ware
house; laid there taking on freight notil 8 o'clock;
made the run to Vicksburg in 37%/ hours, to
Memphis in 8 days 8 hours, to Cairo 4 days 3
hours, to Evansville 5 days, to foot of Louisville
Canal 5 days 18 hours; lost 8y, hours before get
ting away from Louisville, and made the run
from Louisville to CincInnati in 12 hours and 50
minutes-7 days and 11 hours from New Orleans.
She registered 119 cabin and 51 deck passengers
up, and 88 cabin and 83 deck passengers on the
down trip. the Mitchell's time from New Or
leans to Cincinnati was 7 days and 19 hours.
Both the Morgan and Mitchell had a bright
moon and clear weather all the way up the his
sissipp, but labored hard against a strong cur
rent full of heavy driftwood, which several times
tore off the buckets from the wheel of the Mor
Lan, on which she lost two hours and a half at
the bank on two occasions in repairing. The
Mitchell was the first to pass Memphis, followed
some eight hours later by the Morgan, which had
gained 16 hours on the Mitchell in the ran of 800
miles. This looked very muob in favor of the
Morgan coming in firat, but when she gained two
hours more at Cairo and nearly four hoiyrs more
between Cairo and Evansville, and the Mitchell
was only two hours ahead, it was then conceded
by the friends of the latter that the Morgan was
the fastest, and would reach Cincinnati several
hours in advance. After leaving Evansville a
heavy storm came up, but the Morgan plowed
her way up the river, nevertheless,
though encountering strong head winds,
and when just above Cannelton, she
overhauled the Michell towing a
coal flas, passing her. The passengers of the
Morgan, numbering 120 were all up, and cheered
lustily as the Morgan whistled past the Mitchell,
and rapidly lengthened the distance, on her run
for Cincinnati. 7 he Morgan reached the foot of
thecanal at a little before 3 o'clock, and BY, hours
later had discharged her freight for Louthville,
and wee bounding up the Ohio on her last stretch,
several hours ahead of her rival and making for
Cincinnati, arriving here at 7 o'clock a. m., 6 days
and 11 hours out from New Orleans, including all
lost time, and ranning with a broken arm and
bucket in her starboard wheel over one-half of
the way. During all the way up she never had
more than 140 pounds of steam. The Morgan
also beat the Grand IRpublic's time over five
hours from New Orleans to Cairo. The Republic
left New Orleansnwith the Mitchell. The Nor
gan's cylinders are 28 inches in diameter, with 8
feet stroke, and the Mitehell's (out of the late
Capt. John U. Newooub's Wm. Noble and Great
Western, ballt by Thatmana kbdld) 22 inches in
diameter, with $ feet stroke.
LoutervnILL, Fuse 28.--apt. Kouna's new boat
was launched from the ways at Barmore's ship
yard yesterday afternoon. She will be a perfect
isni of marine arhbiteoture, and our friend
Roans will soon have as good and pretty a boat
as Barmore, "or any other man," ever built.
8T. Louts, June 28.-In answer to all queries
on the subject we have to say that the lit. Louis
and Nee Orleans pool lives. Two pool line
steamers and several pool line barges are now
loading, and the Grand Republic was at 6 last
evening presumed to be the boat that will load in
the line after the John 1. Tolle.
The James Howard left for New Orleans last
night with the hqaviest freight trip of the season.
On leaving Oair6 she will be loaded to her full
capaoity, which Is over Stll0 tons. The Grand
Rtpublio will be the next passenger boat, follow
ing the Jno. F. Tolle. The Republic will not
come on berth until after the Fourth.
In grantiqg permits to steamboats for excur
sions it has been decided by the supervising in
spectors that the number of passengers that may
b! carried must be determined by the local In
spector, who will be held responsible. This was
done from a conviction that, In varying orourn
stances, an arbitrary role of measurement would
be not only uniust but unite frequently unsafe.
