NELSON GOBOM. Serg't. 8ig. Ser. U. B. A. ABRIvALS.-Isabel, Eva, Eureka, C. H. Durfee, B.rt Able, Centennial, Martha. DEPARTURSx.-Isabel, Assumption, St. John, Gov. Allen. To ABBIV--Ella Hughes, Robert Young, La fourche; Mary Ids, upper coast; Isabel, tower coast; Glenuoe, bt. Lfmis; Cherokee, U. P. Schenck, Cincinnati; Willie, Attakapase. Clear and warm yesterday. Business not very active. We hope our frienps on the river will bear in mind that we do job work of all kinds in the DEMtOCAT office. When a neat and cheap job is wanted, and at the shortest notice, try us. Tom Langdon has snipped as second clerk of the W. J, Behan. Tom has not steamboated for several vrars. Tom Knee has charge of the Stella Block's offioe. The Yazoo Valley had a fine trip in Thursday night. She is the packet to-day for Vicksburg in place of the Natohez. She is a fine steamboat and a very fast one besides. The Centennial arrived from St. Louis yester day morning and will return to-day. The repairs on the Blue Wing not being com pleted in time for her to leave to-day her de parture has been deferred to next Saturday. The Eureka in the meantime will continue to fill her place. The E'la Hughes will b3 the only departure for the Lafourche to-day. Jorr5cE.-Wednesday evening, on the way down, the Assumption landed at Harvey's brick yard to take o. a lot of bricks, to be delivered on the trip up. To this eight or ten of the roneta bouts objected, and despite coaxing and remon stance on the part of the mate and captain, gath ered their dude and left the boat. Thursday morning they put in an appearance and asked fo, their wages. This was refused, Capt. Chareot claiming that they were not entitled to any be cause they had refused to work and left his boat in distress. They then went before United States Commissioner Southworth and entered suit. Judge Southwortb, after hearing both sides, dis missed the suit, holding that as they had shipped for the round trip, they were under obligations to make it, ani that having quit the boat without sufficient cause, they hadfourieited their right to moneys due them. Thinking their claims would fare better elsewhere, they went before Commis sioner Halliday. That gentleman, upon learning all the facts, told them to clear out, saying fur ther that he wouldn't entertaina case passed upon by a brother commissioner, and that if they had come before him in the first place, he, too, would .have dismissed the suit. From Mesrs. Britton & Elipler, agents, we learn that the Sunflower Belie, Dick Dent in command, wi 1 leave Vicksburg to-day for New Orleans. The Belle comes here for repairs, and when finished she will load for the Sunflower river, leaving here next Saturday. The fine steamer Texas leaves for Alexandria and Grand Eoore to-day. The Bed River Transportation Company have withdrawn the C. H. Durfee, for the purpose of repairing her, and will send out to-day instead the W. J. Behan. Capt. Geo. E. Wilkinson will command the Behan, Mr. F. A. Ames clerk. The company take great pride in keeping their boats in tip -op order, and the moment there is work to be done on one, another is selected to fill her place. The Lotus No. 3 being on her last trip, the CoL A. P. Kounes ill take her day, hlaving here next Wednesday. E. Oonery & Son have three boilers, with mud and steam drum complete, for sale. See adver tisement. The John H. Hanna, being ready, leaves next Wednesday for the Ouachita, and the Howard will be wittdrawn. Capt. Woods has contracted with Dave Mcoan A Son for a new cylinder complete, and a new shaft, for the La Belie. In connection with the departure of the Tren ton to-day for the Athobfalaya, there are three certainties that shippers can depend upon: That she will leave every Saturday; that she will re main in the trade, and that she will give satisfao tion to those who have business with her. Bob bins and Block are good fellows, both of them; they have lots of friends here, and they will make them there. The Trenton will connect with the Ann S., run ning in Old river. Hiving a sheet to put in her boiler, the Eva did nst leave for the lower coast yesterday, lay it g over to her next regular day, Monday. The freight received by the Eva goes on the Martha to-day. We had the pleasure of a call yesterday from Lou MacFarland. Lon is the very head clerk of the hotel at Grand Isle, and says u'e the best place he's struck yet. The Martha, leaving to-day, makes a run through the jetties and out into the Gulf for a short distance. She is a fine steamer and the trip a pleasant one, worth the making. John W. Ong, who has been spending several weeks in the city, returned home on the Dawn. Bousters on the upper Mississippi packets now get $25 per month and firemen $30. The Stella Block, fr the Tensas and Macon to-day, is the last chance shippers will have this The Assumption, for the Lafourche, not only had a fine freight yesterday, but she had her cabin full of people. The Willie will arrive to-day from the Teche and return next Wednesday. See telegram be low. The Eureka, in plaoe of the Buine Wing No. 3, J. A. Comstock master, Meeers. Woods and Dean clerks, leaves to-day at 10 s. m. for Donaldson ville and the Ashland plantation. The lower coast United States mail and pas aenger steamer Martha, W. S. Bassett master, Mesrs. Legier and Barois olerks, leaves to-day at 5 p. m. for Port BaEnds. The Texas, in place of the Bart Ale, leaves to-day at 6 p. m. for Alexandria and Grand Ecore. Richard Sinnott master, Geo. Hamilton olerk. The Yazoo Valley, in place of the Natchex, T. R Smith master, Frank Beck, Jr., clerk, leaves b-day at 5 p. m. for Vicksburg and all mail .- semi-weekly coast and Bayou Lafourche -lfet Ella Hughes. Joe Dalferes master, leaves to-day at 5 p. m., going through to Lookport. The Trenton, J. L. Rubbins master, Gabe Block clerk, leaves to-day at 5 p. m., posi tively, for the Atohafalasya, through to Washing ton. The Stella Block, J. B. Fullivan in command, leaves to-day at 5 p. m. for Black river, Ten sae and Maoun, through to Warsaw. [By Telegraph.] FA.N.sr , La., Augna. 2.-To Hite & Carlin: Oapt. Trinidad is improving slowly. The Commonwealth is filling up steadily, and will leave for New Orleans to. morrow. The barge company will dispatch a tow on Saturday. The city authorities of Keokuk have agreed to lease to the Keokuk Northern Line Packet Com. pany 210 feet of the levee, and the boats of the line will hereafter land there. The price is to be $500 per annum and the payment of back wharf age to depend on the decidion of the Supreme Court. Courier-Journal, August 1: The steamer Rob;. Mitchell was sold by Capt. James Paul yesterday to Capt. Dan. Moore, Mr. Frank St.in and others of Cinemnati. Capt. Paul left for Cincinnati on the Lvtle yesterday to close up the sale. The boat will be taken to Cincin nati, put in complete repair, and enter the fall trade as a regular Cincinnati and New Orleans packet. Terms private. The new steamer Alvin made a trial trip yester day and pet formed finely. She is going to prove herself among the "flyers," and is a very hand some boat. She is over at Jeffersonville, where she will remain until she staris nuthb. After nine years of labor and an outlay of many millions the canal for steamers around the lower rapids of the Upper Mssissippi, extendin g from Keokuk to Montrose, -opposite Nauvoo, is about completed and will be ready to admit the passage of steamboats in a few days. It is regarded as one of the most important improvements within the territory of the United States. The govern ment steamer Montana is the first boat to go through. MARINE NEWS.
