miles above Coushatta; cargo, 496 bal a rotton,

October 7-Wreckina boat Travis Wright sunk
w. miles below Coushatta, with 173 bales cot
on recovered from wreck of Bryarly; boat total
October 9-Southern Belle burned two miles

We purposely refrain from giving any details
of the prospective disposition of tonnage for
this season, as customary; for experiene has
taught us that they are but speculations. Suffice
Rgo say there will be plenty for all purposes.
Int.losing, we wish to congratulate the river
fraternity on their prospects. Peace reigns su
preme in our beloved sunny South; she is no
longer the prey of the despoiler and agitator.
Our rulers are her own sons. In our national
council our voice is potent enough to make our
reeds known, and to receive that attention and
that heretofore has been so lavishly given to
ither sections. The great enterprise of the day.
the jetties, is an accomplished fact, and the
benefits to accrue from it almost within our
Mrasp. Emigration that has so long been turned
krom us has halted, and is looking at the attrac
ive South as against the grasshopper ridden
and snow covered prairies of the Northwest.
S8ooessive seasons of bountiful crops, and
one the most bountiful of all, are bring
lies to the faces of our people, and ple
th purses to their pockets; and last but
o---&east, we have, thanks to the admirable
and organization that has harmonized

Weather clear and warm yesterday.
Being the last day of the month business was
not very active.
The steamers Bertha and Big Sunflower havw
a special notice in to-day's caper that is of con
siderable importance to Opelousas shippers.
Attention is called to it.
Attention is called to the M. I. daily line of up
per coast packets, organized by Capt. J. A. Ruiz
for the coining season. The packet for Capt. Al
bert will be here within ten oars. The Mary Ida
needing a few repairs, Capt. luiz has chartered
the Era No. 10 until they are made. The Mary
kda leaves to-day as usual, and the Era Tues
ihe Natchez brought 30 bales cotton and 200
sacks seed, all new, and shipped by J.Pullen,
Blackhawk landing-the largest single ship
ment made so far.
The Martha and Eva form a daily line to Port
Eads, run on schedule time, and carry the
United States mail. See advertisement.
The Alvin and Isabel will also form a daily
line tothe lower coast as soon as the repairs on
the Isabel are finishel.
One of the gilt-edge coast packets, the fleet
Ouachita Belle, falls into line very shortly as a
semi-weekly packet to Bayou Sara. See adver
tisement in another column.
The Gov. Allen and La Belle are announced
in our advertising columns as a semi-weekly
line to Bayou Sara.
One of the most thoroughly organized and
systematic organizations in the country is the
Red River Transportation Company. Besides
the boat mentioned in their card, they have the
Timmie Baker (chartered), Frank Willard and
four new barges, new boat building in place of
Lotus, the Alexandria and Danube, both new
boats building by Capt. Mat Seovell, and the
Clarksville. recently purchased.
The Col. A. P. Kouns will not be here to leave
to-day. She passed a place below Alexandria
with only 24 inches water, and was aground
there when last heard from.
The officers of the Trenton report a heavy
gale of wind Thursday near Baton Rouge. The
Willie was anught in it in the reach below that
place and had her chimneys blown down.
The Blue Wing No. 3 leaves every Monday,
Wednesday and Saturday at 10 a, m. for the
coast, Donaldsonville and the Ashland planta
tion.
The Henry Tete leaves every Tuesday at 1to a.
m., Thursday and Saturday at 12 m , for the
ceust and Lafourche, making all landings each
way in daylight.
The Unltd States mail packet Natchez. T. P.
Leathers master, leaves this p. m. for Vicksburg.
The regular Atchalalaya packet Trenton. J. L.
Robbins master, Gahe Bloes clerk. leaves to-day
without fail.
The independent and very light draught Alex
andria and Grandl Ecore packet Ella Hughes,
Joe Dalferes master, leaves this evening, sure.
The Saturday Alexandria an I Grand Ecore
packet Dawn, in place of Bart Able, Chas Trus
low master, leaves positively to-day at 5 p. m.
The Big Sunflower, A. P. Trousdale master,
J. B. Schmit clerk, leaves to-day for the Atcha
laRhe steamer Ella Hughes has r.-umed her
place in the coast and Lafourche trade, and will
leave this evening at 5 o'clock. Capt. Joe Dal
fores commands; Mr. E. Nicolle is chief clerk.
