The cause of cremation is making great progress in Europe as well as this country. The late decision of the New York Board of Health tl the case of the Kircher child shows that in that city there is no law prohibiting the blrning instead of the burial of bodies, and it is quite probable that if the matter was similarly tested in other cities it would be found that everywhere the right to cremate a body exists. In London the head centre of the crema tionists meets. This body is in correspondence with all portionsof the globe, and is collecting all the facts and statistics attainable on this subject. Its reports show that the revival of the discussion of this question some three years ago has caused a great revival in cre mation, and that this practice now prevails in quite a number of European and American cities. Cremation seems to have taken the &imest hold in Germany and Holland. A congress of cremationists was held in Dres den last year, at which representatives from Switzerland, England and France were pres eat. At this congress a large sum of money was raised for the erection of a crematorium where bodies can be burned. This crema torium is to be on the best and most scientific plan. In Holland there are quite a number of cremation societies, and not only had a arge sum of money been raised for this pur pose of establishing furnaces to burn the dead, but a paper, The C-remationist, has been started advocating this cause. In Italy, also, the cremationists are quite numerous and energetic, and have had a law passed by the Italian parliament permitting cremation. A number of crematoriums have been erected at different places in the king dom, and quite a number of families have adopted this way of getting rid of their dead. In this country very few experiments of this kind have been made, and all of these in the North. There is now one furnace at Washington, Pa.; two crematoriums, one at Brooklyn and the other at Chicago, are in the course of erection. They will be completed in a few weeks, when they will be thrown open for public use. Altogether the cause of cremation has moved forward wonderfully in the past year. The cremationists are earnest supporters of this practice, and eloquent over the advan tage of having the ashes of one's ancestors and relatives near at hand in the house. HOTEL ARRIVALS.
