Decidedly "Lohengrin" has excited the ouri oslty of our opere goers, for there was again a full house at the Varieties last evening to listen to the masterpiece of Wagner, the creator of what is called the musio of the future. The sao cess of this opera, by the way, has prompted the management to rpeat "Lohengritn" at the matinee on Saturday nex', (probably for the last time), in order to afford everybody an opportu nity to see it. On this ocasion the admission price to the best parts of the house will be only one doller, as nusal, and only twenty-five cents extra fir reserved seats. Last evening we were very much pleased to notice that Miss Pappenbeim was in better voice and that she played with unusual spirit. Mr. 8iegand, Miss Grimminger and Mr. Adolphe also played and sang with more than ordinary effect. The part of Lohenirin was sung by Mr. Frltsch, wh-se pleasant timbre (a little Tff eted by tremolo) we have already noticed. We have only to say that Mr. Frits !t acquitted himself of his dificult task beyond our expectations. In deed the entire performance was pleasant, the satisfa tion of the audience being frequently manitested by geu.ine applause. We must revert to last night's performance, and to Mr. Fritsch, to recommend to our readers this splendid termminatin of the first not of "Lo hengrln," the pre'ude to the third act, the air of the triumubal entrance of the king, which was well snng by Mr. Wi·gand, and above all, to the magnificent re'itattiv of Lohetngrin, in the same act, to which, if Mr. Fritech will only apply the requisite studly, will secure for him very flatter ing criticisms. To-night Donnizetti'a great masterpieoe, '"Lncia de Lvmermoor," will be presented by the Fryer Pappenheim company. MAC'ALLIATER. Both at the matinee and evening performances of Macalhiter, the magician, at the 8t. Charles yesterday there were fine audiences again, and the prospects are that these gift entertainments will continue to prove attractive for some time yet is come. At the matinee Mrs. Ohas. Mor gan, No 260 Prlrur stheet, and Mr. Denis Ms early, No. 84 Plubp street, each received a gilt rimmed china tea set. At the evening perform ance the two sewing machines were awarded respectively to Mr. J. Labry, No. 17 Bourbon street, and Mr. . . . Humphreys, No. 47 Ram part street. The principal presents tonlight will be two gilt-rimmed china tea sets. }ENEVIEVE ROtERA appears to-night in her new play of Bona at the Academy of Music. W. W. COLE. This genllAmar, the preprietor and manager of Cole's Now York and New Orleans musenm, me nageric, aquarium, circus, school of gyrrnaDia and trained animals exposition, arrived in this city last evening. This b g show is really a New Orleans inethution, and is probably the vastest of its kind in America. Ihe mammorth tents will be thrown open to the .ublio on Monday next, to continue otp we ~k only, at the corner of Canal and Rocheblave streets. There will be two per formances daily, one at noon and one at night, at the moderate prioe of fifty cents to see circus, menagerie, museum and everything else. sRW!IABLE AND CONCERT. The Ladies' Aid society of the Felicity Street Church will give a grand sociable and concert in the basement of their church to-night and to morrow night. The entertainment is given to raise the necessary means to repair the time honored ediflce. The preparations which have been made for the affair indicate that it will be brilliant, entertaining and select. The price of admission is only twenty-five cents. BREVITIE. An advertiser in the 'ic has "good board, en suite and single." For the benefit of the ladies we will observe, that lull drtes, or opera cloaks end other toggery, are not adopted at the Varieties. All of which is quite sensible, as the arrangement of the theartre is quite diffrrertt from that of the old Bourbon street Opera Ilinese. Mr. Nathan says a steamship line to BraI'l won't pay. The postal committee of the OCham ber of Commerce say they want a subsidy for a line to Brazil. Can't they get together and com promise matters and thus secure co-operative action ? The erratic lounger who is thinking of his lady love, or the business man who is computing how he will manage to pay his note that falls due on the mrrr, w, if they stand a line more than four feet thriee inches in their boos, have a poor show on Roydl street, on account of the low awnings on that thoroughfare. It seems to us that tall men should have something like fair play. There will be a meeting of the Immigration Association this evening at Expositi n H11a, at which a large attendance is expected. I he va rious sooieties of the city, o mposed of f,reign born citizene, are invi ed to attend, and, a.c bis is tie last nm eling before the State conovetion, whlch meete in January, it is hoped th-it all pi r sons inter"ast, d in this movement will make it a point to be present. A slip of copy lost on the way from the editor ial to the composing room, makes us appear in Wedn. sday morning's issue as an u -appreciative critic. It contained our appreciation of Miss Miuzelli's graceful and tasty pirformanoc of the "seduction so-ne" in the third act of 'Robert le Diable." LAWBRNCE-LEW1$ AND OGLESDY TO BE RENOMINATED. Lewis Indorsed Last Nilwht-- ash Wants the Naval Office. "Just you hold your breath until you see who will be the Collector," said a Packard man on Wednesday morning in reply to the inquiries of a DEMOCRAT reporter, "and you'll find that the 'oses,' as you call him, will come out on top." Yes; but how is that "top" business to be ar ranged? queried the reporter. Easy enough, was the answer; the President has said he WOrULD RENOMINATE ILAWRENCE, and he will doubtless do so, but that hundred Representatives and twenty-seven Rtepublioan Senators will show to him that he will not be confirmed, and once rejected, the President hav Itg kept his word, will send Packard's name in, for the reason, if nothing else, that he would be the best person to keep the Republican party together. That there is foundation for suoh statement there is no dlubt, as late private atdvics to Packard's frienr;R iedicate, and on the other hand Mr. Lawrenoý's friends avsert that it will take just the balano of the .sna'e to curflrm hum, and that they claim tlhy will have when his vtnae is sent in and reported upon by the Committee on Cummerce.
