News: Some days ego a Henry, Ala. woman stole a young lad of a fellow over there, and brought him over the river with a view of making a husband of him. A license was necessary to consum mat 3 this arrangement, so she hired out her self and young man to cho' cotton until money enough could be raised to pay for the license. But they soon realized the adage 'he cmrse of true love never runs smoothly,' for two brothers of the lad put in appearance at that cotton patch one day, and at once went to work to give him a gc:~x thrashing and we are told they made the dust fly out of the fellow's "britches." They next went for the woman and treated her in the same way, only a little more so. They then took "little buddy" home, but left his would-be wife to take care of herself. A young Mexican woman died suddenly a few days ago in Brownsville, Texe. Her body was found to t 3 covered with contu sions. The Democrat says: One who seemed to be up in the superstitious lore of the Mex icans, and who was on the jury of Inquest, says the contusions were jroduced by the blows of a wet hair rope, which he says were given her for the purpose of driving out evil spirits that had possession of her, or as witchery is r-'tll i In 8oruish, kes brujas. he examination showed tnat this poor victim of a benighted superstition had been closely confined in a room wherein was deposited a great quantity of chilpiquin--small Mexican pepoer, similar to cayenne in strength-on heated coals. Weatherly, an English cavalry officer, clapped his son, a boy of thirteen, who was with him, on horseback, kissed him and told him to fly for life. The lad jumped from the saddle, striking the horse a lash which sent it galloping of and said: "Father, I will die with you." Thie father banded his revolver to the child ust as the Zulus reached, over British bodies, the spot where they stood. Weatherly slew five Zulus before he fell, but the son was killed at once.
