cessive operation, to tike up the extractive matter ; and
in consequence are most frequently improperly made, and
not infrequently much impaired,' if not rendered totally
inert, by the injudicious and unskilful management o'f
those unacquainted with phaimaceutical preparations.
It is, therefore, of the highest consideration And impor
tance to the public, and to the faculty, that there Rhonld
lie standing preparation, of uniform' strength, nnd pos
sessing the most advantages. To efl'oc.t this, nnd obviate
the evil alluded to, I have made a numlier of experiment
to ascertain the most effectual mode of extracting the vir
tues of the Sarsaparilla and the liuchu, and tn discover
the most eligible form for their exhibition. The experi
ments have resulted most favorably, and it is with much
pleasure I now nflertn the public and the faculty my Com
pound Fluid F.xtrncts, which contain all the virtues of the
articles they arc represented tn be made from, in a highly
concentrated form, and are the most active preparations
that can be mao. Two tablespoonfuls nf the Extract
iMirsaparillii. added to a pint of water, is equal to the Lis
bon diet diink : and one boltle fully equals, in strength,
one gallon of Syrup Sarsaparilla or decoction as usually
made.
