Of course, this starring notico comes right on top of his colossal and gratuitous advertise. ment, and in order that tho publlo shall not havo had timo to forgot him, Mr. Hilliard, it is said, is looking out for a Now York then- tre in which to opon next month. It was ro- portod on Saturday that Ed Morris, tho Irish comedian, ot presont with ' ' Conrad tho Corsair," at tho Bijou, will introduce tho slippor kissing episodo in the burlesque during tho coming week, and has already ar ranged with a well-known shoemaker to man. ufacturo a whito slipper about two feet long to fill tho rolo of tho dainty little artiolo which Mr. Hilliard is accused of kissing. WhothorMr. Hilliard will enjoin Morris is not known. Perhaps tho enterprising Bob. ert has copyrighted tho opisode, in which caso Mr. Morris had better look out for him. Belf. Mr. Hilliard wants all the advertiso. mont ho can get and ho sadly needs it. Arrangements aro being made for tho pres entation of a burlesque on "Faust," tho lead ing part to bo playod by Alfred S. Phillips, who has had considerable oxperienco as an actor in tho last twolvo or fifteen years, and is now in Now York for the purposo of closely studying 'Honry Irving at tho Star Theatre It is thought that tho burlesque will bo given in this city early in January, after which it will be taken to Boston, Chicago and Phila delphia. The burlesquo was written sixteen years ago by Bobert Craig, a comedian, and ilftoen years ago was producod under tho titlo of " Faust and Morguorite," with Miss Fanny Davonport as Marguerite Mr. Phillips will givo imitations of Wilson Barrott in " Clito " and Henry Irving. Ho is anxious to securo Miss Fay Templcton to play Faust and Amelia Summorvillo for Marguorito. Bo hcarsals will begin very shortly undor tho direction of William O. Daly. Tho backer of the enterprise is said to bo a Philadelphia broker named Stcrott. About fifty people will bo in tho cast. Thero is somo talk of the burlesquo being given at tho Fifth Avenuo Theatre, but that is by no means sure. Mis Amelia Summervillo had on offor to go to London to play in tho Christmas panto mime at tho Gaiofy Theatre, for sixteon weeks. Miss Summervillo wantod to go, but Manager Bioo, to whom she is undor contract, was not willing to part with her, it is said. "Falken stein" is the name of the pantomime in which Miss Summervillo will not play. Tho failure of "She" in Philadelphia, nows of which was published this morning, was by no means an unexpocted event in this city. Tho play was put ' on without much preparation, and effootB and " weirdnesses V wero utterly disregarded. Tho opening night in Philadelphia must, aocording to all ac counts, havo been very funny. The pretty noso of the witoh foil off at a thrilling mo ment, and tho oalcium-lights woro, of course, thrown upon her whilo noseleRS. Tho audi enco roarod, and when an audionco roars at the wrong time, a play is in a protty bad way. Whon tho Academy of Musio falls into tho hands of its now lessees, E. O. Qilmoro and Eugeuo Tompkins, on Nov. 28, Alexander C. Comstock will probably fill tho plnco of John Donnelly as acting manager. " Tho Arabian Nights " will follow " The Dark Socrot." Exactly why "' The Arabian Nights," which couldn't fill tho Standard Theatre, should bo taken to the Academy is not easy to under stand. It is explained, however, by the fact that tho burlesque did not havo n good show at the Standard, which is not considered a lucky theatre. After the burlesque tho Booth-Barrett Company will occupy tho Academy. Miss Carrie Knight will bo soon to-night in "Nancy and Company," in Harlem, with Arthur Behan's company. Harlem is rather too far to go for an evening's aiuusameut.but, Augustin Daly will not allow Mr. Behan to produce his plays at any other theatre in this city. Mr. Behan would bo allowed full sway in tho Bowery, but Daly's plays would hardly be understood in that region. The instant the servant's steps died away in tho distance, Katie sprang to the door anil locked it, oven adopting tho precaution of hanging an apron upon tho knob, that no eyo might by any chance penetrate her secret by means of tho koyhole. Then sho danced across tho room, and throwing open o half unpacked trunk, drew therefrom several articles which seemed strongoly out of ploco amidst tho tasteful, expensive garments by which they wcro surrounded.
