Disorder today marked the attempt of the coastwise and transat
lantic steamship companies to break the big Iongshor mensstrikewith
Italian and negro laborers When tug landed a ragged human cargo of
strike braekers at the docks of the Bush Terminal in Brooklyn this after
noon a big crowd of union men made a rushfor the newcomers and in a
minute goodsized riot was in progress The police reserves who had
been sent to the wharves in anticipation of such an outbreak charged the
belligerents with their clubs They drove the strikers back affer arrest
ing three of them and clubbing a good many more Several of the Ital
ians were badly beaten
