These hunting trips after deer or
antelope with the wagon usually take

As evening grew on we rode river

along the edge of a sandbar near a
pool on the farther side of the stream
bed over two hundred yards distant
They saw us at once and turning gal
lope away with flags aloft the pic

going straight away from me running
very evenly and I drew a coarse sight

A Feast
Not only I but all the camp had a

we had no fresh meat and a fat white

best of venison So after dressing the

One morning Instead of trudging out
to hunt I stayed at home and sat In a
rocking chair on the veranda reading
Suddenly my attention wn arrested
by a slight splashing In the water
glancing up from my book I saw three
deer which lad come out of the thick
fringe of bushes and young trees across
the river and were strolling along the

ping stealthily Into the house I plck d

A Long Shot
One or the deer was standing motion
less broadside of me It was n long
shot Z U yards but L had rest against
a pillar of the veranda I held true
