The trabiport Agamemnon sailed for
France to-day with the 1st Provisional
of the Overseas Replacement Depot
1,000 soldiers who have enlisted for three
years on the promise of foreign lervlce.
Many of them were men who had seen
service In the Philippines and Hawaii
and had an unsatisfied hankering to go
to the A, K. F. Not a few were men
who wore one or more gold chevrons on
their left eleevo showing they had the
dtslre to go back to Kuropo after hav
ing visited home for a few weeks or
months.
Tho battalion was In command of
Col. I II. Jackson who had a detach
ment of twenty-four regular officers
with him t relieve offloera In the Army
ot Occupation who are to have a chance
to come home.
Among the soldiers In the battalion

pegnler of New Orleans, a widow, (0

Vollard, an art publisher, at Ms office
yesterday, said to-day the cause of the
shooting wm a miniature of George
Washington, more than a hundred years
old, known as the "John Trumbeil
miniature," which she owned. She shot
Vollard only when he choked her, she
Insisted.
Mra. Trvpagnler said Vollard wanted
the publishers' rlrhts of reo reduction
of the Washington miniature and they
reached an agreement as to ropalUes.
Thereafter, she said, she could get no
