After mass Archbishop Hayes In
troduced "nabo" Ruth to tho Marshal
as a member of tho Knights of Co
lumbus. The Marshal presented to
Ruth the first brick for the new $2,
000,000 welfare headquarters for tho
New York Chapter, Knights of Co
lumbus. Tho Marshal received an Illumi
nated spiritual bouquet, tho gift of
100,000 children of the parochial
schools In New York. Tho children
of Europe gave him a similar one.
From tho Cathedral tho Marshal
went to Fordham University and
received his sixteenth degree as
doctor of laws since he arrived In
America, Oct. 2S. The 69th Regiment,
N. Y. G., acted as escort. After re
ceiving tho degree the Marshal pre
sented two war medals to two men
of the 00th to Sorgt. Richard O'Neill
tho Congressional Medal of Honor,
and to Sergt. Edward J. Clancy the
Distinguished Service Cross.
Leaving Fordham tho Marshal was
driven to Poe Park, tho Bronx, whore
ho placed a wreath on tho column
erected In memory of men of that
section who died In tho war. He then
called at tho Convent of the Sacred
Heart at 130th Street and met several
sisters. Ho then went back to tho
homo of Mr. Kountzc.
After resting a fow hours the Mar
shal then went to the Army and Navy
Club In "West 59th Street, where he
was greeted by high olllcers of the
army nnd navy. Th?nce ho went in
the Plaza and later to tho Hippo
drome. At the reception In the Hippo
drome, under tho auspices of the
American Legion, tho Marshal got a
tremendous ovation from C.000 men
nnd women, waving American nnd
French flags. Ho spoke briefly, prais
ing (no Legion ana its purposes
