The award of damages by the jury in ihe matter of the

The splendid estate of Nicholas Biddle called Andalusia,

market. The accounts from the North state that the canal

Trial for Faise Pretences CoscLCOEf.?The testi?
mony in the case of th" People against John W. V.YMag.on
trial for false pretence, baring been concluded on Monday,
and the case having been summed up on Monday nigbt. on
the opening orthe Court this morning Judge Lynch charged
the Jury on the law of false pretence, which he defined ar,d
applied to the ldcts as given in evidence on trial, and after
a long recapitulaiion of the facts of the case pro and con.}
gave the case lo the Jury who retired to their chamber tu
deliberate. After an absence ot two hours returned into
Court with a verdict of guilty, and a recommendation to
mercy. Sentence was delerred until Saturday.
Trial for Burclart.?James Hughs, a boy of 15, was
tried for burglary in [be third degree, in feloniou-ly en?
tering the office of John J. Gantz, coil de-oler, No. 299 East
Broadway, at night with intent 10 steal, and alter rummag?
ing the desks, kc. set fire to some papers on the floor. 1 he
office was entered by forcing the window shutter bp ?,
thrusting the hand in and unlocking the door. Three ke
were stolen Ircmthe otiice, which Assinani Alderman Nash
of ihr Seventh Ward took from the pocket ot the prisoner
after he had been arrested for breaking into onotner c rat
l office. The Jury found him guilty.
Another Trial ror. Briu<LARv._James Hughs, the
above, and John Clark, boys, were ihen tried for another
burglary in the the third degree, in breaking into the coa!
office of Jeremiah Skidmore, corner ol East Bioadway ;md
Govcrncur st. onihe uight of the 15th October, with intent
to steal. The complainant, with Assistant Alderman Nash,
about midnight, f?und the back windows broken open, and
that an attempt had been mad?* to blow open tt:e iron eisest,
and that papers were found burning on the door. The boys
were found concealed in toe jam in the rear of toe office,
win toe keys ot Gang's office, powder, kc. in their pock?
ets. The Jury found them both guilty, and bring under J'J
they were sent lo the House of Ketuge.

were engaged in the manufacture and utterance of coun?
terfeit $5 bills of ibe Manufacturers' Bank of Providence,

Ihe above bank ; and in the yard of the bou^e occupied by
a Mrs. Shepherd on Avenue C, they found the plate, and
in the house the press, kc, for the manufacture of said
notes- They then arrested Mrs. Shepherd, and afterwards
William Shepherd, Thomas Shepherd, Charles Jero om an,
and Ehza Campbell, who were severally committed,as the
makers and utterers of said bills.

body of Mary Morris, aged 63, a native of this city. She
was found lying in a stooping posture over a tub, entirely
dead. Verdict, difd of disease of the lung* and old age.
