Col. iHunroe opposing, the Civil Government--.lira, White's Child alive. Wo get the following late and important news from the Occidental (Independence) MetKnger, of the 17th. It will be read with much interest: Maj. R. H. Weightman and Mr. 8 Green arrired at this place on Wednesday last, direct from Santa Fe\ They left the latter place on the 19th Inly, in company with a number of oilioera of the U. 8. Ar my und a small escort of soldiers. They mot the July mail four days journey this aide Loa Vegas, and August mail at Cow Creek ; also met a num? ber of merchant traini, all of which were getting along prosperously. At Aah Creek Maj. W.'a company were fired upon by a small bind of Paw? nee Indians, but sustained no it jury. West, Judge of the Central Circuit; Diego Archi etto of the Northern Circuit, and Thomas Cavega da Bacca, of the 8outhern Circuit. The following arrivals are expected at Fort Lea venworth by the l??i of August from Santa Fe: Capt. H. A. Allen of the Artillery, Capt. 8yke?, Lieut. >iympton, and Assistant 8urgeon Edwards of the ~th Infantry ; also Dr. Carol Thomas, and Mrs. A. W. Reynolds and family. Maj. Weightman left on yesterday for Washing? ton City. Mr. F. A. Cunningham, the other Sena? tor elect, is expected at this place sometime during the present month. He was formerly a member of Congress from Ohio, and is at preunt Paymaster of the troops in New-Mexico. The military commander Col. John Manroe, has notified Gov. Alvarez that he will resist auy action of the State Government with all the force at his disposal. An animated and interesting correipondenoehas been kept up between these gentlemen, and a great degree of anxiety is felt among the oittaensof Now Mexico to know how the matter will termi? nate. The action of Col. Munroa sustains in pow? er the civil officers, who, in the recent elections, have been repudiated by a large majority of the popular vote. It will also prevent the organisa? tion of militia, and may have the effect of delivering New Mexico, bound, into the hand of her enemy, Texas. Captain Reynolds contemplates erecting a large wool factory at Socoro, 250 miles below Santa Fe. Crops are very iioe in New-Mexico, and there) will be a great abundance of gram, especially wheat, throughout the country. The price of real estato is advancing in Santa Fe- Capt. Angney, formerly of Jefferson City, is building extensively. Reliable information has been recently received that the child of the unfortunate Mr. and Mrs. White is still alive, and efforts are still making for its recovery. The Camanche and Navijo Indians had made frequent incursions upon the settlements through? out the country, and committed extensive depre datier a in acme instances. At Galeiteo they encamped at a spring in the iuburbe for a day or two, and compelled the citi? zens to bring them supplies of beef, mutton, A:o ? They finally took such property as best suited titair fancy and decamped, not thanking the people for their hospitality. FROM WASHINGTON. Professional Far at West Point-The Milltarr Bounty Land Bill-Henry Clay la the Sen? ate?Proceedings in the Senate on Tatars' day. Correspondence of The Trlbcno. Washington, Thursday August 29. The proceedings in the Senate, that is in the open Senate, are not of much interest of lato, and 1 have seen nothing for two days past even fit fjr a text to hang a discussion upon. The House is now the great center of attraction, as the Senate was, some four or five weeks ago. The proceedings of tho Senate in close leaaion, as fast aa they leak out, will, of course, reach you by telegraph. Tney have c'.oaed the dcora for several days past tt 1 o'clock. This morning the only two matters up of any in? terest were, an Appropriation bill for the Military Academy at Weat Point, and the Military Bounty Land bill, both from the Bouse of Representatives' ' The Senate Committee on Military Affairs, had otlered a slight amendment to the first of these bills, which made a brisk little debate. The bill as it came from the House had changed the mode of paying tho Trofesaora at Weat Point. It aeems that heretofore they have had their pay from va? rious sources, in the shape of rations, amounting to irregular sums In the neijbborbood of $2,000 per annum. The House reduced the whole to a uni? form rate of $1,500, for each Professor. The amend? ment of the Senate Committeo was to raise the salaries of all the Professors to 82.000, tsctpt thou, of tke l'n<fcssor$ of Frtnck and Drawing, which amendment was ftaally adopted by the Senate Mr. BRADBDKl objected, and raised quite a pow? wow about the extravagance of tho matter, and got a pretty severe sotting down from Davis of Miss.i bat taobody nltackea the amendment on the ground upon which it was really vulnerable? namely ItB invidious distinction between the pro j irisorshipa. a;-id against two of the most useful.
